Many of the protein powders out there use artificial sweeteners, like aspartame, Acesulfame potassium (ace-K) (these are also a aspartame product), or sucralose, which seems to be the favorite. In some cases you will see three of these used together. There is much data on the dangers of Aspartame and Aspartame has had the most complaints of any food additive available to the public. When sucralose came along it was thought to be better and safer, but research suggests that it may negatively affect friendly bacteria in our intestines. Your intestines are a second immune system, the more friendly bacteria you have, the healthier you are.
