Menopause, also referred to as the "change of life," is the point at which a woman stops ovulating and menstruation ceases, indicating the end of fertility. The menopausal period is different for each individual woman. Some start earlier and some later, but the average age at menopause is about fifty. The transition (perimenopause) can take any where from a few years to an average of about 5 years. Some women have perimenopausal symptoms for 10 years or longer before menopause finally occurs. This is the point (the beginning of perimenopause) when the daily use of Gamma-O for Her is recommended. A woman who undergoes a hysterectomy but who keeps at least one of her ovaries stops menstruating after surgery, but she will still go through menopause.
