100% protein and N-Large 2(assuming this is a post workout meal) are good proteins. From my personal experience in trying just about all protein powders is that their pretty much all the same! Obviously these supplement companies will feed you a bunch of bullshit on how theirs is so superior to everyone elses, but from using over 10 different kinds, their all pretty much the same. If you like the taste and its affordable, buy it!

check out a web-site called proteinfactory.com, they custom "build" protein powder to your exact spec's or you can just tell them what you need it for & they will do it for you. you can also order any kind of basic protein imaginable. most of their stuff is only about $10/lb. too.

don't listen to anons advice, he doesn't know what he is talking about.
HONESTLY, their is no BEST protein mix out their. As john and I discussed, their are so many mixtures available, and ways they are processed, that Nobody knows for sured, the BEST protein. Until Universities do research, and take test subjects, put them on the same excercise program, diet, but have each individual supplement with different proteins, and in the end, see which version, or mixture worked the best. The test will be very difficult though, because they will have a lot of variable, and will have to make sure each person gets the same amount of fat, sugar, protein amount, and carb content as everyone else, or the study will be No good. So they will have to make sure each different kind of protein mixture has equal amounts of fats, carbs, and sugars in them. This is the only way the test will be acurrate and precise in telling which protein powders are the best. Now if they don't monitor fats, protein amount, sugars, and carbs, It won't make a really good test, it will just make a so so test.

Now by itself, WHEY is the best, but the best mixtures, and processing methods, we don't know which one is the best until research, and tests are done.

Has anyone tried Phosphagain 2 from EAS? It's a lean mass simulator that contains creatine and protein.

By Anonymous ( - 64.12.103.31) on Monday, January 15, 2001 - 11:09 pm: Edit

I don't think Nitro Tech should be compared with a lot of the other proteins. Ofcourse you're going to get better results with it because they also put creatine in it. Right now I've been taking Optimum Nutrition's 100% Whey and it's working fine.

fitforlife - the testing has been done - get Dr. Colgans book 'Right Protein for muscle and strength" he has worked with thousands of trained atheletes over past 25 years and has a wealth of 'scientific test results' no hype - no hobblegoogle - just facts (and no he is not on the payroll of ANY supplement company)

By fitforlife ( - 64.123.119.45) on Wednesday, January 17, 2001 - 02:32 am: Edit

have you read the book?? If so where did you see it. I would actually like to see it before I buy it.

Also are there test results in the book that show one certain protein work better then another?? Here is what I am getting at. Can the Dr, HONESTLY tell me which one of these combinations will be the most effective for muscle repair, or just in general. The best combo for a bodybuilder, or lifter.

a) only whey isolate,
b) whey concentrate/isolate+egg albumin,
c) whey isolate/concentrate+milk
d) whey isolate+soy isolate,
e) milk protein+soy isolate,
f) egg albumin+milk and finally
g) milk protein+egg albumin+soy isolate and finally
h) whey isolate+soy isolate+egg albumin+protein milk

This is what I want to know. Not whether he thinks Whey is better than Egg protein by itself. I can tell you it is, But I want info like up above. To date, I have not seen ANY info on this. using all of those different combos, and publishing it in a clinical, or Medical Journal..

Fit - this is where I got the book http://www.applepublishing.com/cgi-bin/show.cgi?main.html I believe it truly answers your questions. You will also see other Colgan books there too - I just got the 'New Power Program" (Published 2001) and I am still digesting it - it is definately going to dramatically change my workout programs. (I thought that after 20 yrs of reading bodybuilding mags and trying different programs that I had already found the right program by now - lol) for info on the New Power Program go here http://www.newpowerprogram.com/test.html - have fun

The Best Protein is a blend of all protein, such as met-rx or HDT Pro-Blend 55.. Just taking plain Whey Isolate will not do any good, It will just go in you and come right back out, you need a mixture of fast asorbing and slow asorbing protein. WHey Isolate/concentrate=FAST
Egg Albumin= Medium Speed
Milk Isolate, Cassenate= Slow
Go for a blend DUDE :)

By Mike Mentzers moustache ( - 212.127.20.3) on Thursday, March 22, 2001 - 12:06 am: Edit

Just add whey to milk then you have the mix of both fast and slow proteins.

ALL THIS PROTEIN NONSENSE IS SICKENING!!!
IF YOU GUYS UNDERSTOOD THE ENERGY REQUIREMENTS OF THE BODY..AND THE ENERGY SYSTEMS OF THE BODY..YOU WOULD KNOW WHAT FOODS GROUPS WOULD BENEFIT YOUR BODY BUILIDING ATTEMPTS BETTER.......
ALL THIS NONSENSE ABOUT EXCESS PROTEIN IS PURE INGNORANCE!

By AliveGuy (137.113.13.177) on Sunday, May 27, 2001 - 07:47 am: Edit

Absolutely everyone. Pure ignorance. You all need to stop reading those scientific journals which cite documented experiments proving the benifits of protein to a body builder. Everyone knows those studies about how BCAAs increase protein synthesis are completly wrong. Its so absolutely ignorant to read all those proven experiments and try to apply them to your own efforts. Everyone knows science is just pure crap. Afterall, muscles are only made out of pure fat and glycogen. Moronic people who actually believe in science...who needs science when you have the unproven, magical word of the one and only PROFESSIONAL TRAINER!

As for me...Ill meet my protein requirments like the trainer, by eating tons of modern foods jacked up with chemicals, saturated fats, and super high glycemic sugars. Its the only way to go...since this 14 year old has been training for 16 years afterall he would know. Get real...who sounds ignorant now?

By bronxbomber (208.3.198.28) on Sunday, May 27, 2001 - 12:01 pm: Edit

the professional liar has reared his unknowledgable head again about a subject he obviously knows jack about.its a medical fact that only protien can repair muscle so save us your bullshit we are tired of hearing it.

FREE SAMPLES NUTRAAMINO.COM has a protein shake thats fat free 1 carb 25g protein in 8oz serving and it tastes like choc milk in water its great, and its all natural come check it out!

By smokinghawk (209.125.52.152) on Monday, July 02, 2001 - 02:21 am: Edit

Well, I tried to get that free sample, nutaamino. I even paid by credit card. Your web page wouldn't accept the order because of an error, "Error: Merchant account not enabled". So since you (the merchant) don't have an enable credit card account, tough cookies. I really wanted to try that sample, too.

By Big Cat HH (Bigcatmod) (213.224.83.110) on Monday, July 02, 2001 - 02:57 am: Edit

Why do you have to give a credit card for a free sample. What kinda bullshit is that ?

By fitforlife HH (216.236.17.162) on Monday, July 02, 2001 - 07:35 am: Edit

yeah, a credit card for a sample??? For real?? If so, that's BS. Take lessons from Sportpharma, or HDT. Free samples, and NO credit card. Some people. And I bet the reviews they have on their site are from employees who use the products... That's not far fetched. Companies do this. They have reps, or people who work for them say their products are the best. And they are, or else they wouldn't have a job... LOL
