I have isopure which has 50g of protein and myoplex, which has 42g. I now you're supposed to take a lot of protein right after your workout. Should I have one shake each directly after my workout? I need to get big. I only weigh 145

Exactly anon, the most important meal of the day, is the meal AFTER your training, so if you want to take a full advantage, add each one of them (lsopure or myoplex), in 16 oz of milk or juice, and drink it immediately, to replenish your body as soon as possible with vital nutrients and vitamins that it has lost during your intense training.

Alright, thanks John. Should I just have one shake or two?

if you dont take after workout protien with carbs the body will convert the protien for use of fuel instead of repair,so make sure you take enough carbs with the protien i either use grape juice(usually with creatine)or 2 bananas and about 45 grams of protien.

ok thanks

Yeah it is a proven scientific fact that eating protein with carbs causes a higher insulin release than eating just carbs alone. 75 grams of carbs doesn't cause as much insulin release as 50 grams of carbs and 30 grams of protein. So after a workout having an isopure with fruit juice is a great idea.

IS it ok to have my whey protein(prolab) with milk? or is it better to have it with juice?

there are carbs in milk and the casien in milk helps slow down the whey absorbtion.also if you need more carbs do what i do add 2 bananas in the mix.

is that a bad thing that the casien slows down the absorbtion? And can i just eat a banana with that instead of mixing it in? thanks

The reason you wait an hour before eating is to give yourself enough time to post the same message two-dozen times all over this messageboard!
anyway, it's perfectly fine to take your creatine along with your protein. As for when to take creatine, follow the directions on the label.

I take my protein with skinny milk at night (around 9ish) after my workout, with some carbs. I work out intesely, and my muscles are well developed. My problem is that I have a layer of fat - and I'm taking ECA to lose it along with a reasonable diet.
My question is - whether the protein I take at night turns to fat overnight, because I go pretty much straight to bed. Protein and milk has calories, and my thinking is that, those calories turn to fat overnight because I'm not burning it off. Can anyone please help me out - I'm really in the dark and confused. Any help is much appreciated - thanks.

RIC, you don't have to worry for that. At that crucial time after your workout, your body tries desperately to get replenished with the appropriate amount of protein and carbs (since your body's glycogen levels are at its lowest at that time) any way it can find. lf you don't feed it with the appropriate nutrients, it will start eating itself, ie it will start eating your hard earned muscles!
So what you do is fine, since you train so late every time. But just for "peptic" reasons don't go to sleep immediately after your 400-500cal shake, but wait half an hour before you go to bed.

Okay, there here's another question. I eat wisely, but immediately after lifting weights intensely for one hour I add 60-70 grams of dextrose to my high-protein shake. I've been taught that this will cause an insulin spike to help replentish glycogen and prevent muscle loss or retarded growth, as would be the case without this glycogen recovery.
My question is this: in that situation, will those carbs go toward muscle needs and thus benefit my overal physique, or will they become just another fattening sugar carbohydrate? And even if it doesn't make me fatter, will it prevent me from *losing* fat by exercise?
(incidentally, I don't do this after cardio, just immediately after weights.)

Ok, l will tell you what l believe.
l have read that the usual guidance for people that want to supply theirselves with an adequate amount of carbs, (after their weight training) is 0.75 for every kilo that they weight, (1 kilo=2.2 pounds), in order to provide SUFFICIENT carbs to their bodies.
Now my using the word "sufficient" it means that with this amount you won't get extra calories that might turn to fat, but also you don't take "less" calories if you are dieting hard.
So if we assume that you weight 220 pounds Akicita, you need 220/2.2=100 X 0.75=75gr of carbs in order to provide the optimum amount of carbs to your body. And l repeat that this amount is not intend to make you bigger or thinner, but just to keep you maintain what you already have.
And l guess that if you want to get thinner you should decrease the amount of carbs by 20-40gr.

John, as usual, thanks! I weigh 230, at 14-15% bodyfat, so I've been trying to lose fat but spare muscle after lifting weights. I don't eat enough calories to add much muscle, but I'm losing fat fairly well. I've been taking about 70-80g/dextrose after lifting, so your advice fits me well. Once my fat is lower, I'll convert gradually to a surplus of calories to start adding more visible muscle. Being extremely tall hasn't helped me add muscle, either.

Just my input, after working out I like to keep a 2:1 carb to protein ratio. For protein I will have a double serving of VP2 in water, thats 48 grams of protein. So, in order to meet my carb outline, I need atleast 96 grams. Well thats easy, I like to eat a banana or raisins(22 carbs) and drink 40 oz of gatorade(75 grams). I eat the carb meals before my protein shake so that my body has to oppurtunity to refuel and burn up the carbs and sugar first instead of my protein. When I am drinking the gatorade I will also take any other supplements(NAC, creatine when on cycle, glutamine when off creatine cycle, methoxyisoflavone) to aide in uptake.
A side note, I think that Gatorade is probably the best of the high glycemic juices to consume creatine with. It has an abundance of sodium and potassium, which many of the higher priced creatine/carb mixes like to include because it is a scientific fact that sodium/potassium are major contributing factors in transporting creatine back and forth in the body, and greatly aide in uptake.

Thanks for your input John, it's much appreicated. I shall keep you all posted with the results of the Protein + 0.75/kg carb post workout mix.
