200-400mg per day.

Be sure to take it with meals, otherwise it might lower your normal blood sugar levels, which can lead to hypoglycemia complications.
I've had my best results taking 200 mg with breakfast and the last meal of the day. I also take 200 mg with my post workout shake, which is comprised of: 50 grams protein, 100 grams of maltodextrin carbs, 10 grams of glutamine and 200 mg ALA. (occasionally I will throw in 10 grams of creatine even though some people are totally convinced that mixing them is wrong---I happen to like them all at once). That makes a total of about 600 mg of ALA per day. On days I don't workout, I take 200 mg with breakfast, lunch and dinner, again for a total of 600 mg of ALA per day.

I have 300mg of ALA in my universal creatine. Since it's in powder form, is it not absorbed well? Because I also have 50mg ALA caps. Should I take one of those with each serving?

Not if you already have 300 mg in your creatine. The problems that I've read about with regards to ALA premixed is that it is exposed to air...which apparently degrades it making it useless. This makes sense to me...I once bought a really cheap brand of ALA which was in tablet form. I took it until I was done with the bottle and I had no effects whatsoever. I'm pretty sensitive to blood sugar changes and when I usually take ALA on an empty stomach it makes me go to sleep. I read about the air-ALA interaction and bought the shitty brand again. I dared myself and took it on an empty stomach...nothing happened. Later that week I took the usual good brand on an empty stomach and bam! I fell asleep.
Go figure.
That's just my opinion. I'd finish the bottle of creatine you're taking and then go buy a can of pure creatine and add your own ALA.
