Protein=AST Research's VP2!! It's expensive but it's by far the best protein out there! No other protein even comes close!
MRP=Basically whatever tastes good to you. Personally, I like Labrada Lean Body or Met-Rx.

best MRP for quality/price/amount is Weider's mega mass 4000. It has 150 g of quality protein dextrose and maltodextrin. I just read a comparative study with 5 different shakes however, and eventhough it was suppsoed to make Nutri-lean look good, the one that came out on top was Lean Body. I've never tried it, but based on its comparison against nutri-lean, Meso-tech and 2 other brands I forgot it came out looking pretty good at a very low protein to carb rate (1.6 to 1) and still containing 45 grams of protein. Its about 90 g servings I guess.
So Anon is right about lean body. Met-Rx, I wouldn't risk it, too big a chance of getting screwed for the money.
As for protein : any quality brand that says its all whey protein isolate at a decent price. mix it with milk and you have the best protein in the world for postworkout recovery.

for a protein shake i think ast's vp2 ranks up at the top. Designer and prolabs isolate are also very good
for an mrp, i have a few that i like: labrada's, myoplex, nutriforce by sportpharma, and nytropro40 by ast

Big Red, jeez, that's not going to help the kid is it ? What if I asked you what to use and you told him you liked every single one they sell out there.

Just go by the criteria : Get at least 30-40 g protein per serving no matter what. that's a minimum. On top of that, if you are bulking up, go with the highest carb content to match it, preferably from quality simple sugars like dextrose and maltodextrin. A little fiber can't hurt either. basically, for bulking get the most calories for your money's worth.

hey, i gave the kid a choice..also, if you read what he said, you'd notice he's cutting

then it works both ways don't it ? I think anyone with half a brain can derive the opposite out of what I said , nay ?
And there is a difference between information, a choice, and basically leaving someone to the same fate.

Hey Big Cat, don't you mean Complex carbs?? You said Maltodexttrins were simple. To my understanding, Maltodextrin extracted from grains, are Complex carbs. (medium length complex carbohydrates)

By Big Cat on Thursday, February 01, 2001 - 01:41 pm: Edit

Maltodextrin basically breaks down in the blood into a simple form of dextrose. Only it has a longer half-life. That effect is the only reason its classified as a complex carb, but basically maltodextrin, when used by a bodybuilder would be more effective to be considered a simple sugar.

Sorry for the misunderstanding fit. thanx for pointing that out.

BigRed,
What are your thoughts on Prolab Isolate? I think it has the most protein (like 92%)and does not contain aspartame like VP2 and the others. I was thinking of giving it a try.
