How often do you guys drink your protein supplement? Do you drink it everyday, or just on the days you work out?

Thanks.

im 17 and i've lifted for 3 years. my srength coach told me I should atleast have 1gram of protein for every pound. I then told him it was extremely hard to eat 175 grams of protein a day. He then told me to have a protein shake in the morning(30GRAMS) THEN EAT FOOD W/GOOD AMOUNTS OF PROTEIN THROUGH THE DAY. THEN AFTER WORKOUT ANOTHER SHAKE.(30G)SO FOR THE LAST YEAR i HAVE TAKEN TO THAT ADVICE AD i HAVE PUT ON a good 20 pounds of lean muscle

I agree with halfback. All that protein will do good for him. and if it has worked then the rest of u can keep ur rude remarks to urself. Waco why the hell did u just call urself a dumb ass. Dumb ass is 2 words anyways.

By Anonymous on Thursday, December 23, 1999 - 02:31 am: Edit

hey dada, why dont u educate yourself. If u were educated u would know everyone has there own program. one thing that works you might not work for me and if it did we would all be very buff because everyone would do the same thing that works

Protein consumption is ideal for after training. reason being your muscles are much much more sensitive to nutrients now and will absorb the protein more efficiently. the preferred choice is whey protein because it has the fastest absorbtion rate. also, protein consumption has to be scheduled around other supplements too(glutamine, creatine, ribose etc.)

Everyone says Whey is good.
But I want to know how good is milk and egg protein powder???

By fitforlife ( - 208.190.252.5) on Saturday, September 16, 2000 - 10:02 pm: Edit

Yes, whey is good, and so is a lot of other proteins. Some comapanies use pure whey in their formulas, and others use a combination. For example.

Prolab 100% pure whey (whey protein)

ProPeptide from Dorian yates (whey protein hydrolysates, isolates, and custom whey protein.)

HDT Problend 55 (whey protein concentrate, Egg Albumen, Calcium caseinate, whey protein isolate, ion exchanged whey, hydrolyzed whey.)

Sportpharma Promax ( non-denatured whey protein concentrate, milk protein hydrolysate, ion-exchanged whey)

As you can see each company uses its own unique process, and blend of proteins. It just depends on the manufacture what you will get in it.

Example. HDT believes that whey+Casein+Egg= OGA
Optimum Growth Advantage. And they belive that this is the proper ratio of multiple proteins. They state that Whey alone has one downfall, which is rapid absorbtion. So their blend is created to increase protein absorbtion time.

In all honesty, all protein is good, and each one has its +,- I guess it just depends on what you think is better, and over time, more studies will be conducted, and better and better protein sources will be manufactured. The supplement industry changes drastically, and always will.

Honestly I can't tell you which one is better except individually (notice down below) But as far as certain ones being combined with each other, I am clueless. For instance Which one is the best below????? Couldn't tell you.

Whey+EGG
Whey+Milk protein
Egg Albumin+ Calcium Caseinate+ Ultra filtered Whey
Casein+Egg+ non-denatured whey protein+ion-exchanged whey

The mixtures, and processing of Protein is VERY difficult to dissect. As long as you have a protein powder with whey in it, you are ok, and if it has the rest, don't worry, it is still good.

Protein Source BV

Whey Protein Isolate Blends 100-159
Whey Concentrate (Lactalbumin) 104
Whole Egg 100
Cow's Milk 91
Egg White (Albumin) 88
Fish 83
Beef 80
Chicken 79
Casein 77
Rice 74
Soy 59
Wheat 54

l agree with you fitforlife. What l want to see some time, is a University research study, that will take 24 guys, that are training with weights, and split them in at least 8 parts.
(So 3 people to join every grop, and l don't think its so difficult to find 24 guys in some big university that weight lifting, and to tell them to follow one of the following combinations).
a) only whey isolate,
b) whey concentrate/isolate+egg albumin,
c) whey isolate/concentrate+milk
d) whey isolate+soy isolate,
e) milk protein+soy isolate,
f) egg albumin+milk and finally
g) milk protein+egg albumin+soy isolate and finally
h) whey isolate+soy isolate+egg albumin+protein milk
(l think the most interesting mixing will be the last one).

University research would be good, because we won't know the BEST combo until tests are done.

Whew protein is complcated!

i think you try and get your protien from all different sources through out the day.i for one use 2 different protien powders for different reasons.the first one i use is a whey isolate formula that i use for right after i workout( i mix with carbs and glutamine)the second one i use is met-rx protien plus which is a blend of 4 different proteins this is what i use before bed and for a meal replacement mid morning. i realize that everyone cant afford all kinds of supplements so if i had i choice i would get the whey protien and mix with milf 2 slow down the absorbtion.the other protien i consume from whole meals are eggs, chicken, fish(usually tuna),and lean red meat.so the only protien im not really getting(besides soy)from food is whey.but as with bodybuilding everyone is different and no 2 people will react the exact same way so try different protiens and choose for yourself.but i do agree with john and fitforlife that i dont think anyone really knows what protien is the superior so until they do i try and get protien from as many different sources as i can.

I've been a personal trainer for 7 years and the best way to put on lean muscle using whey protein is this:

1) drink a shake in the morning right after breakfast

2) drink another with a light, low-fat, high protein snack such as lean chicken strips an hour before lunch.

3) drink one after lunch

4) a shake right after dinner

5) and here's the one that'll really help you pack on the muscle: set your alarm clock for the middle of the night, wake up and slam a shake down then go back to bed. With this routine I've had people gaining up to 15 pounds of lean muscle in under a month while on a serious lifting schedule.

NOTE: And remeber, keep the diet balanced. You'll see about 80% of your success when on a good clean diet. LOTS OF PROTEIN, little carbs, and remeber to eat fat. Don't go sucking on a stick of butter but remember to have your diet stocked with sufficient fat for use as energy.

Keep chuggin those shakes!

i just read that whey protein is absorbed faster. i'm now taking optimum formula, and i'm wondering if i should take most of my protein after my workout when the muscles are most ready to absorb it and the blood is running faster or should i continue to take it through out the day as i've been doing? at this point i keep my carb intake to a minimume, only taking in carbs about two hrs. before my workout. i'm also thinking about starting on some creatine. does anybody have any advice. e-mail me at flkaceegul@aol.com
