i've heard bad things about their creatine. I think their vitamins and amino acids are high quality, just not their protein or creatien supplements.

It actually depends on where they get their raw material from. I can tell you one supplier they were using has great stuff. Just because it says GNC doesn't mean the products are bad. It all depends on where a company gets their raw material from. I will find out who they get their stuff from. I think I know, but I will double check. I won't name the Raw material supplier, but I will find out if it is still the one I was thinking about. If so, good stuff. Let you know soon...

I faithfully use their "Hair Skin and Nails" formula becuase I've tried all others with no results. The GNC brand is the best, I have very noticable results with it. I think their vitamens are top notch.

Personally I don't trust GNC products. They're in the marketing business, like anyone else. But when GNC creatine is next to X creatine in their store, they're going to talk you into the GNC brand to boost their sales with the buy one get one half price promotion. Remember, the sales associate is on minimum wage and needs that commission.
I do have faith in their multi-vitamins though. Other than that stick with sport supplement companies with a good track record, AST,Twin Lab, Pro Lab...

Like I said in my post up above, it all depends on where the RAW MATERIAL comes from. And what I have found out, it is GOOD quality. But heck, they have the money, and can afford top notch material. Just because it says GNC doesn't mean it is crap. GNC is crap because they are too high, and the employees are dumber then bricks. (90% any way.) Plus, they don't always carry the GOOD brands they should have.

Optimum Nutrition has the contract to make
products for GNC.

See, a companies products are only as good as they claim IF they have good raw materials.
For example, when you buy herbs, it is better to buy a gauranteed potency, or standardized herb.
The supp industry is very tricky and hard to understand. Just like all the bars on the market; a lot of them are made in the same plant. I can think of at least 6 bars from different companies, and ALL are made in the exact same place.
And if you look at the bottles on companies, most companies formualte the stuff, but don't make it in house. Only a few companies formulate and manufacture their products. Why?? because this gets expensive. There are places who will formulate, make, label, and package it for you, and then all you do is sell it. Well, a little more complicated then this but you get the point...

"Remember, the sales associate is on minimum wage and needs that commission"
"But when GNC creatine is next to X creatine in their store, they're going to talk you into the GNC brand to boost their sales with the buy one get one half price promotion."
That's not true, in all cases. I've been working with GNC, for about 3 years. My first year, I worked for the corprate GNC, and yes, we were on min wage. But the thing is, only certain products are on commision at GNC. It's not the hightest sale, gives you the highest commision, like at allot of places. For example, when I was with corprate, Xendrine had a two dollar commision. Now, I would push that, over a GNC fat burner, becuase, it does benifit me, financially. But, on the other hand, the customer has nothing to lose, because GNC offers a money back, garauntee, no matter what. Even if the bottles empty.
I switched stores, about 2 years ago, and this one is a franchise. This one opertates different then a corprate store. My pay is allot higher, and I barley make any commision. My point in telling you all this, is that just cause a sales asscoiate recommends a GNC product, you should not aasume it's for his/her benifit. In my time at GNC, I have tried pretty much everything they carry, espeacially sports supplements.
I've found all this to be true, at least in my case.
1.The best fat burner: HydroxyCut, with Xendarine a close second. I base this on personal use, and customer satisfaction.
2.The best MRP: There are a few, Myoplex, Metrix, and Cytoplex. Also LeanBody. In my opinion, the MuscleTech MRP is over priced, and something seems fishy about their "10 grams of Glute" claim.
3.The best Protien supplement: Pro Labs N-Large has been good to me, and allot of my customers seem to have good success with it. GNC's Pro Performance 100% Whey. I love this stuff. To me, it mixes the best, and taste the best. And it's the best by. You can get 12 pounds, for like $62.00.
4.Amino Acid Liquid Complex: Again, Pro Performance comes through on this one. Out of all the stuff my store carries(TwinLabs, and Optimum), this has the highest contend of each amino.
5.Creatine: ISS Research's effervesent creatine. Followed by Twinlabs. CellTech has lost it's luster about a year ago. Allot of people finally realized, that if you added 75 grams of sugar, and about 100 plus carbs to a glass of water, you'd make the same gains.
7.Glutime: GNC's Pro Performance, and Twinlabs, powder form. I have had good success with both. It comes in about 5 grams a serving.
WeightGainers: Optimum's wieght gainer is great. At least for me. And it taste great. I've seen allot of customers have success with GNC's brand, but I have never had it.
Well, that's the rundown of what I prefer, with what GNC carries, on these products and if you see, I don't think I'm biast at all. I give customers shit that works. We garauntee everything. I'm not gonna recommend shit, then have the guys/girl come back in 2 weeks, and return it, pistoff. I rather see people get what they want. If anybody lives near me(I'll tell you where that is when you EMail me), EMail me, and I'll hook you up.

"GNC is crap because they are too high, and the employees are dumber then bricks. (90% any way.)"
LOL! I'll agree on that, allot of GNC employees don't know as much as I think they should know. And that's not fair to the customers. What's also pretty sad, is when I was with corprate, my Regional Manager was on of the most overwieght human being, I have ever met. I think GNC, if they are gonna preach health, need to have healthy, and knowledgeable employees. Weather, it's a parttime asscociate, or the General Manger.
"GNC is crap because they are too high"
Some stores, yes. Most franchise, though, will have lower prices. For example, we always have 20% of on EAS, TwinLab, and Metrix. And we give the 20% discount every day. Plus, we match any price. We sell Extedadrine, the big one, for 27 dollars. And from what I've seen, no retail health store, sells it for cheaper then that. So, guys, if your gonna buy from GNC, ask them if it's a franchise, if it's not, leave. Go find one, you can always negotiate with franchise GNC's. Shit, if any corprate GNC kats are reading this, there gonna be pist! Oh well.
| By Anonymous (66.30.133.194) on Wednesday, August 29, 2001 - 01:17 am: Edit |
Hold on! That 20% discount is only good on the first Tuesday of every month. It USED to be good every day, but not anymore.
| By PB2 (172.131.75.48) on Wednesday, September 05, 2001 - 09:01 pm: Edit |
Well, the GNC's around my place it is still good any day 20% off.
