How much are you taking in per day? You really have to find out how much protein is in your foods first and then add your shakes to fill the long periods in between meals. You could aim at between 150 and 200 grams of protein from food, and then supplement with another 50-100. The bigger your muscle mass, the more you'll want to make sure you get in to avoid breaking down other muscle. One or two shakes a day should suffice, provided you are eating roughly 5-6 meals per day. I try and eat lean meat at every meal, so I only get by with one or two shakes at the most. Also, are you eating carbs following your workout? Many people can't build muscle without at least taking in some carbs with your protein and creatine after the workout (I'm one of those people). Are you currently dieting?

I am trying to gain mass. What is a good carb intake food to have after a workout. Should I still take my protein shake after the workout along with the carb intake. Thanks

Yes because your body needs desperately at that critical time to replace the amino acids that you lost during your weight training. (You are in a catabolic stage at that time and your muscles are starving, and if you don't feed them with a sufficient quantity of protein, you have just lost the game). So since a protein shake is liquid, and is digested much more quickly than regular food, shoot for every kilo that you weight (1kilo=2.2 pounds) 0.75gr of carbs and 0.40gr of protein.

What I like to do after a workout is, mix up 16oz of N-Large2 by Prolab at 8:00 or 8:30 which gives me 89g of carbs, plus 52g of protein, and then 16g of protein from the Milk, and then carbs from the milk. Then later before I go to bed at about 9:30-10:00, eat a can of tuna which has 30g of protein in one can, and 150cal. And days I don't eat tuna, I will add 2 Tablespoons of peanut butter to my N-Large, and then eat an egg. 2 Tablespoons of PB has 190 cal. That will give my N-Large a total of 1110cal in 16oz of whole milk. One other thing, bagels have about 46g of carbs per Bagel....

I have been fortunate in that my mate works at a company that makes 'whey'96.6% pure as a soluble milk protein with low fat, lactose and cholesterol. My weight is 293 lbs. I work out everyday at the local gym upper body one day and lower body the next and run 20 min. on treadmill before my gym work. I consume 100 grams of this whey powder 'daily' mixed in water as a drink.I also eat meat daily in a sandwich, and drink lots of water. My question is, am I having enough or not enough protein intake for my size 293lbs. Also how long should results take using whey at 96.6% pure. I have just started working out, I am in my second week. Also is there a web site I can chat to serious people who really know about all this, so I get emmediate answers?? Please reply ASAP, thank you, kindest regards Scott.

Well, for one, 100g is not even enough for me, and I am under 150lbs.
Next, results will NOT come on the protein alone, and the purity of the whey doesn't matter as far as the results.
If you are looking for a gram amount on the protein, probably between 293-439g.
The reason that I gave this wide range of numbers is that I believe if you are NOT 293lbs of solid muscle, then you don't need the 400g range. Here is why, at 400g of protein, that puts you at 1600cal in JUST protein. Now say you eat 100g of carbs, and 30g of fat. That's another 670cal, or a total of 2270cal.
If you are trying to lose fat, later on you can do 1300-1500cal for the day.
What is your height, and also goals?? What results do you want??
I know people love protein, but protein is only part of it here. Don't forget to look at the whole picture when you begin something like this.

No side effects from whey protein. Use it after you workout and first thing in the morning. Dont take more than 40-45 grams in one sitting and leave 2-3 hour gap between intake.
