Is it true that alcohol lowers testosterone levels?
| By james on Monday, February 14, 2000 - 09:48 pm: Edit |
alcohol will make you fat so don't drink it.

Yes, I am aware of the fact that excessive alcohol intake can make you fat, because of the vast amount of calories it contains. I simply want to know whether alcohol lowers testosterone levels or not. Someone, somewhere once told me it does. But, then again, I felt he was a jackass, so I came here to see if any here knows.

I've been training for over 4 years and have the occasional drink, normally a scotch before bed. Have seen no side effects, but dont know any of the science behind alcohol and bodybuilding.

I heard that bodybuilders drink a lot of alcohol before contests to dehydrate and bear the veins more, is this true?

lt is true, in order to look more veiny but they don't drink a lot as you said. From what l know is that some of them they drink just one small glass before competing.

I've been told the body burns 3 things for fuel.Alcohol,Carbs and Fat.If your drinking alot, the body will burn that, leaving the fat and carbs to be absorbed.I don't think it lowers testoterone.I always think I'm the toughest guy in the world after 4-5 Bacardi's.

Dorian posted that Arnold would consume a couple of chickens and a six pack after a workout, so maybe there's validity to it's effectiveness. However, I'd hate for someone to become an alcoholic just for the sake of bodybuilding.

Hi guys, ive always asked the question does alcohol impact on bodybuilding...does it restrict my gains, does it make me fat...still I cant awnser this for sure. I drink quite abit but not in large quantities, I stress alot with my work and a number of other factors and I find alcohol to help me relax. Bodybuilding is a big part of my life now but I know I would be abit of a wreck if I gave up drinking all together. I think it helps you to relax and sleep but with training I find for (ME) only that as long as I dont drink before I workout, I dont think I have a problem with it. IT effects the 6 pack yeah but thats the sacrifice I make with it...it may vary for everyone else but thats how it is with me.

Have any of you ever worked out drunk? You feel like you're gonna lift 1000 pounds but you really become weak as all shit! Everybody should try it at least once!!

that's one of the stupidest things i've ever heard....apart from it being outright moronic and anooying to other people at the gym, you're just asking to get yourself hurt

If You Are Dedicated and Committed, You Will Be Able To Resist Drinking, And So It Wouldn't Be A Problem. Sometimes It Comes Down To How Bad You Want it.

I agree... it DOES come down to how bad you want it.
BB is what stopped me from drinking heavy on the weekends. I read about this study the asians (Japanese I think) did on alcohol and metabolism. They found that alcohol is highly catabolic... and causes fat metabolism to dip below normal and stay there for up to 48 hours.
Crazy shit!!! If I want my six-pack to show, I can't be doing much that will work against me.
Just my $0.02.
