Does anyone have any experience with numbness in their quadriceps after heavy sets of squats or leg presses? For about the last year, I've had this problem almost every time I go heavy with leg presses, and now it's starting to happen when I do squats also. I lose feeling in the outside sweep of my right quad right away. It seems to get better pretty quick, but there is usually some numbness that lasts for a day or so after working out. Anyone that can relate, I sure would like to know more about this. BTW, my quads are still growing and getting stronger, so I haven't gone to see the doc about it. Thanks in advance!

Isn't numbess associated with an intense workout? After an intense workout of my arms, or whichever body part, I temporarily feel numb, and barely can move. Is that what you're talking about when you say numbess?

No, I get that good kind of numbness after an intense work out too. This is more like the feeling you get from novacain (sp?). And I only happens to the right quad. My concern is that there is some nerve being pinched or something like that.

That sounds like a condition called meralgia paraesthetica (pronounced mur-al-jee-ahh pair-es-thet-ica). It is caused by compression of the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve. It is commonly experienced by construction workers, policemen, telephone repairmen or anyone else who wears a heavy belt that compresses the front upper thigh. I'm assuming that you wear a weight belt when you do the lifts.
The only lasting and effective way to stop this from happening is to make sure you don't wear a weight belt when you do squats, since that can compress the nerve giving sensations of numbness on the outer portion of the thigh.
