What is every ones's average muscle growth? I was gaining about 5lb. a month and .2 inch to almost everybody part. And now 8 months later it stoped! Or at least last month it did and I have been switching routines about every 3 months, so I am not getting used to a certain workout.

the first year the average muscle growth with a good stable wourkout plan is 15-20 lbs. After the first year it slows down and the gains are less noticable, but dont quit

I'm a 17 year old student living in Australia, wondering what a bodybuilders workout routine would have been when they where my age. I'm looking to gain allot of weight in muscle ratio, but after using countless protien powders nothing happened. My weight flucktuates around 67-69kg and I want to become a bodybuilder. Can I, at this point in my life and if so, do you recommend any products that you might of used that worked. Also a workout routine.

I have been lifting for 3 years without using supplements. I was weighing 135 at the beginning and now weigh 178. But one year ago I hit a plateau and could not gaina pound in spite of switching programs and following advice from many members at my gym. So I finally bought some protein powder a few weeks ago and am taking an extra 75 grams a day. I want to know is there a serious difference between the gainers fuels and basic whey protein? And does anyone have suggestions from their experience how to get over a plateau like this. Thanks...

I'm 16 and have been doing weights for about a year now, an wanted to ask, how long should it take to be able to see a visible diffence with your muscles after starting a weight training program, because i've not noticed anything, and i try to do everything right, I'm now eating 8 meals a day but don't seem to gain weight, I use heavy weights, i can benchpress 60kilos which isn't enough because i want to get srtonger and bigger, what else can i do to gain muscle size? Thanks

You should see slight differences in your physique after your first month or so of weight training. When I first started I noticed almost immediate changes in the way I looked. It was the first real stimulation my muscles had ever really received so that's probably why I saw pretty quick results. Your first year or two of weightlifting is where you'll see your best gains, teenagers especially. As for you, I have no idea why you haven't gained, maybe because you set your expectations a little too high. Maybe you do look bigger and maybe you're a lot stronger, but since you're so set on looking like a professional bodybuilder you haven't really looked at yourself and realized that you have grown over the past year. Maybe you're worried about the way other people look, you know, comparing yourself to those that have been weightlifting for 10 plus years and thinking why you're not that big. Or maybe I'm wrong, maybe it's your diet (eating right? what kind of foods do you eat?), routine (overtraining? do you ever change routines?), rest (getting enough?), etc.
All I have to say is keep working at it, you'll get "there".

To the Glassman,
You say you seem to be getting smaller but
don't look like it and have gained weight...ok
here's what happening to you...muscle is heavier
than fat...so you are actually gaining lean
muscle and losing fat...that's why you seem
smaller but don't look it and your weight gain
is the lean muscle mass you have accumulated
in your month of training....this is good...alot
of guys get all concerned about gaining weight
while working out...which is what you want to do..
but you actually want the weight to be muscle
weight and not fat weight that you can accumulate
from feeding your body just any old food.
You will gain some fat content...this is inevitable...due to the fact that your body is
telling you...hey...I need more food to fuel
these workouts...so if you guys just starting
out in bodybuilding can consume some good food
and make your eating habits good...you will gain
more muscle weight vs. fat weight.
Don't be so concerned about gaining tons of
weight in the early stages of your young
bodybuilding career....remember...muscle takes
time to build...it does not happen overnight..
so don't get all caught up in how much your
weight you put on this week or this month...just
get use to a good diet with lots of rest...
remember...you don't grow while working out...that just stimulates the muscles for growth.. you have to have a good diet plan and
get plenty of rest so your muscles can recuperate
and get ready for the next workout.
Train sensible and train smart...no pain no gain
is a bunch of bull...working out is only 1/3 of
the game plan...if you don't use rest and diet
to the best of your ability...you'll be dissapointed and want to quit....
If any of you guys need help with diet or work
out programs...drop me a line ...

I HAVE A PROBLEM, I'M 26 YEARS OLD AND IN THE LAST 2YRS I'VE GAINED 42LBS, I'M NOW 213LBS. IN A GOOD WAY. MY BODY HAS DEVELOPED A GOOD SHAPE TO IT AND I'M BEING ENCOURAGED AT THE GYM TO COMPETE. WELL, I PLAN TO IN 2001. HERE IS MY PROBLEM. I'VE BEEN MARRIED FOR 4YRS. WHEN I MET MY WIFE I WAS 170LBS. SHE SAID SHE HATES BODYBUILDING. WE ALWAYS FIGHT ABOUT IT. SHE HAS DUMPED SUPPLEMENTS THAT I BOUGHT IN THE TRASH, TOLD ME THE HEAVIER I GET THE MORE UNATTRACTIVE I'LL BE TO HER, SHE HATES THE WAY BODYBUILDERS LOOK AND SHE SAID THEY ACT SELF CENTERED. SHE GIVES NO SUPPORT AT ALL. WHAT DO I DO?

ask her if she would like you to be a fat slob like most husbands end up looking like.tell her you dont like the way she looks that you think she looks ugly and that you want her to change.or theres always divorce.if she really loved you there would be no problem.

By nm ( - 62.252.240.8) on Wednesday, June 28, 2000 - 05:06 am: Edit
she is prolly jealous...she sees that you are looing alot more attractive, and feels under threat from other women.
try telling her you love her and re asssure her. make sure that your gym life is seperate from the life you have with her, ie. dont talk about the gym around her. when you are going out, dont be wearing tank tops or anything, as she wont like this.
and one more thing, id break her teeth for throwing your sups in the trash!! fuk, man, those things are expensive!
seriously though, you could try the 'if you loved me you would support me in this' approach.

Lol, friend nm is bad but l guess l would do the same if my gf had thrown my supplements in the trash. Gunns, what l would do in your position is close to what nm is saying, never talk about bodybuilding in front of your wife, and try not to flex in your mirror when she is in front. Tell her that ancient Greeks were saying "healthy mind in a healthy body",(do you know that the best statues in history were statues of muscular Greek Gods)? And also try to persuade her that what you do, you are doing because you love it, and since she loves you she ought to accept that. "Love me in the way l am, and don't try to change me". Thats one of my favourite quotes, and its too bad that l don't remember who said it.

Survey - Pace of gaining arm muscle: I'm not just starting out, but it occurred to me that I'd be interested in other people's answers to this question. When you started lifting weights properly, how long did it take you to add an inch in bicep circumference? How long does it take you now, at whatever level you're at?
By nm ( - 62.252.128.4) on Saturday, September 30, 2000 - 05:08 am: Edit
dont know akicita. i measured them the other day actually, ive put on about 6 1/2 inches since i started. which was almost 5 years ago. only measured like twice or something in between, gone by mirror, i know though that my arms a a stubborn body part for me

If you need to break through a plateau then up your calories about 1000/day of what you usually eat. Maintain this and a powerliting routine for about a month. I guarentee you will make some small gains at least. Negatives alwasys help me push to new boundries as well. I am 18, lifting for 3 years, when I started I was 125 lbs not ripped, now I am 189 lbs shredded(7%bodfat). The only supplement I use is a namebrand whey that I take 3-5 times a day in 20g doses. I focus very heavily on intensity in the gym and RESTING at night (8-10hrs a night). I hit plateaus but always breakthrough them by increasing the calories.

I'm 4 percent bodyfat and ripped but I want to lower it just how low is it possible to get ones bodyfat percentage?
By Anonymous ( - 64.111.35.109) on Friday, December 29, 2000 - 12:04 pm: Edit
anything under 4% would NOT be healthy. You have to have SOME fat, man. In fact, 4% is allready too low...but you must know your stuff to be in that kind of shape. Props to you.
Not trying to keep you from your goals man, just want you to keep it safe.

I am a 38 years old 6'1" 175#'s and sit behind a desk all day I recently started working out to build some muscle to look like I did when I was 20.I am seeing some pretty good results but want to see better.I eat right, drink protien shakes, take zma and work out every other day.
I get so confused reading all of the mag's, one guy says this and another guy says that, but all of the things those mag's say seem to taylor to a younger crowd.
I can not seem to find anyone to ask questions that isn't trying to sell me something.
Is there any other suppliments or work out program that I should be taking of following at my age? or am I doing it right??
