I'm not sure, but I read somewhere that excessive protein intake gets converted into fat.

No, it does not turn in to fat it is just not used by the body and excreted out, you have to have a hell of a lot of protien for that to happen, very little turns in to fat, you should be taking in 1.5 grams of protien for every pound of body weight, providing you want to grow in lean body weight. And roadbum are you taking just protien shakes, or protien meal supplements meal supplement contain alot of carbs and fats in order to replace a large meal like dinner or lunch, make sure that is not what you are taking. How about your diet, are you on a good diet and are you doing cardio. Did you change your diet since you started training. Let me know so i can help you out.

most weights are heavy and give a good pump when finished workouts .

No Problem roadbum, anytime.
about your routine, you need a few days of in thier for your body to rest and grow. You should keep your chest, and shoulder work outs a few days apart since they both use some of the same muscle groups try this routine

Monday - Legs
Tuesday - Chest
Wedsday - Rest
Thursday- shoulders and back
Friday - Rest
Saturday - Arms
Sunday - Rest (or back and take it off thursday)

Also do abs 4-6x a week and cardio 3-4 times a week (try to do it in the moorning before breakfast)

This way every body part gets a good work out plenty of time to rest and you are not working the same muscle groups the day after. About your weight gain I can garantee its not from the protien there, try to do cardio more often and eat less saturated fats, you are probably taking in to many carbs that can be your problem do you eat alot of pasta, bread, rice, cereal, potatos, suger, etc. if you do cut down and try to take most of them before your work out. If none of this works try a fat burner like ripped fuel, thermo lean, hydroxy cut, etc.

Good Luck
