We are all aware of how often Bodybuilding.com is giving back and supporting the community that has helped us get to where we are. Not only are we supportive to the athletic 'fitness society' that we live and breathe each day but as well as the fun filled events such as UFC fights, athletic teams and more. Once again we have proven that we can indeed go above and beyond to help out in even the most hardship times that others may experience. Bodybuilding.com was one of the many sponsors for one of the most amazing charitable events that I am sure we are all familiar with: "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" on ABC. This time the family was right here in the Treasure Valley from Middleton, ID! This family of six was chosen due to a rare disease that all 4 children carry called Eosinophilic Esophagitis. This disease attacks the kidneys, lungs, blood, esophagus and digestive system. This requires the children to be fed through feeding tubes. The family was living in unsuitable conditions which were a danger to their health causing even more stress.
Hundreds of people showed up for this amazing opportunity to lend a helping hand. Teams of builders, contractors, framers, etc were all there. All of the opportunities to help out on the build site filled up fast.
There were plenty of people like me that weren't able to help on the site but volunteered to assist all of the other volunteers. It was amazing to me to see all the people that just showed up to pass out supplies like water, energy drinks, food - everything!
Due to the strict schedule, the builders weren't able to just leave what they were doing so this was extremely helpful to them. Countless groups of people jumped at the chance to hand out additional supplies. I was able to assist by handing out Bodybuilding.com towels and, to go with the theme of helping out, I had tons of help from others.
After a while everyone realized that was the most important supply available next to water. There was nothing around to wipe the sweat!! As the day went on, we ended up dipping towels in the ice buckets and handed them out to everyone working in the 100+ degree weather.
Only with the amount of preparation, perseverance and 100% dedication given by everyone on the site, was everyone able to pulled off such an amazing task. The builders are given 7 days to accomplish everything and, with no questions asked, it was done!
An amazing crowed of hundreds were there to welcome the Stockdale family into their new home on July 18th. Emotions overwhelmed everyone as this family entered a new home and better life that had been given to them by so many.
I can't describe exactly how I feel because this is something I've never experienced before. I realize that I was able to help on an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, not just for me but for so many other people. The Stockdales may never know the names of all the people that were able to help but we know them. They are part of our community. This is why Bodybuilding.com helped and why I'm proud to have represented Bodybuilding.com out there.
