If you're wondering where Victoria's Secret model Karolina Kurkova gets her famous figure - with body confidence to match - meet Brett Hoebel. Brett's the trainer-to-the-stars who will chat with you between exercise circuits (even tell you jokes, he admits), earn your trust, and above all get you looking fit for the red carpet or runway, if that's where you're headed. The best part? He's armed with diet and workout tips that will help us average Janes as well. Get ready to work for it!

You already look great but, be serious, you're going to be strutting your stuff in front of hundreds of people. Did I mention you'll be wearing lingerie? Yes, this is the time to bring in the big guns.
Brett starts fine-tuning his clients weeks ahead of an important event or photo shoot by cross-training them to balance strength training (for toned muscles), with cardio training (for endurance) and interval training (for a revved-up metabolism). "It's the cross-training that's key. It doesn't let your body adapt to one stimulus too much and it keeps your workouts exciting." What does Brett suggest? Take a yoga class one day, work with your trainer the next, run outside, go on a snowboarding trip - you get the picture.
"Structure your cross-training appropriately by alternating the intensity of your sessions so you work, recover, work, recover. Just don't overtrain! That's a common issue with type-A people in particular." Overall it's the lean muscle that gets the calories burning, and burning fat emphasizes muscle definition that might otherwise remain hidden. Just what the trainer ordered for a body that's runway-bound!

With fitness training underway and a few weeks until the big event, it's time to take a serious look at diet. "Diet is honestly at least fifty percent of the battle. Most people drink too much alcohol, eat too much sugar and eat too many processed starches." So the Victoria's Secret ladies pull the plug on these weight loss pitfalls. "I say, stay away from white devils: white sugar, white flour, white milk, white salt and white rice," says Brett. The alternatives?
"Switch to natural sugars, whole grain flours, get rid of cow's milk dairy (Brett recommends almond, rice, carob or hemp milk), use Celtic or Himalayan salt, and brown or wild rice. Often I'll ask my clients to get a food delivery service or to make their own food so they know what's really in it. Or I tell them that they can go to specific restaurants, where we know the ingredients."

Cutting carbohydrates, specifically, drops water weight rapidly, says Brett. To avoid the sluggishness and fatigue that can accompany a low carb, low sugar diet, he recommends increasing the intake of medium chain fats like coconut oil, a quick source of energy. Start cooking veggies in coconut oil, even eat it by the spoonful. "And drink at least three liters of water a day to flush things out. As we get closer to the event we taper the water off." After the event, his clients always reintroduce carbohydrates slowly to avoid weight gain.
Brett's known for staying up on the best diet and fitness products, and he shared two of his current favorites: Think Thin bars and Living Fuel powders in SuperBerry and SuperGreens. They've become travel staples for his famous clients and Brett counts them as diet saviors.
"If I can get a Think Thin bar and a bag of Living Fuel powder in your purse when you travel, you'll make me a very happy person. Then you're not going to In-N-Out burger when you land in LA or raiding the mini bar or trying to order something from room service."
Brett's holistic approach to fitness might be the biggest reason that his clients keep coming back. His additional certifications as Nutrition and Lifestyle coach, Holistic Exercise Kinesiologist and Hatha Yoga instructor go a long way toward understanding the body as a whole.

But there's a personal level to training as well, because at the end of the day you're dealing with humans, not computers. Understanding that is how you get results."
