Troy Alves Wins The 2011 Europa Battle Of Champions

Kim Buck wins women’s pro bodybuilding while Gennifer Strobo takes pro figure.

Troy Alves won the Men's Open Pro at the second stop of the Europa Battle of Champions. The festivities were held July 28-30, in Hartford, Connecticut at the Connecticut Convention Center. Kim Buck won the Women's Pro Bodybuilding category and Gennifer Strobo took the title in Pro Figure.

The battle is put on by veterans of the sport, Ed and Betty Pariso. It's the second year they've held the Europa in Connecticut, and it grew exponentially since last year (they put they "Expo" back in "Exponentially").

The sponsors list reads like a "Who's Who" of the supplement industry, and the expo was bigger and better than last year. The 200,000 square-foot venue is not as big as the Texas show, it's still a massive space. This is the second of three shows in the Europa series.

The first show was held in Orlando, Fla. in April, and the last will be in Dallas, Texas (where it all started) in August. The 2011 event in Hartford was home to everything from the US Arm Wrestling Show of Champions to the Professional Sport Karate League. I'll give you a run-down of how things played out at the Men's Open Pro, Women's Pro Figure and Women's Pro Bodybuilding shows.

It should be noted that in addition to cash prizes ($10,000 went to the winner of the Men's show, $3,000 to the Pro Female winner and $2,000 to the Pro Figure winner), the Top 3 in each category qualified for the 2011 Mr./Ms. Figure Olympia.

The Olympia is the weekend of Sept 18, so there isn't a lot of time left in the competitive season to qualify. Therefore, this was an important show and there was a lot of money and prestige up for grabs this weekend.
