I started my journey because I was tired of feeling useless, tired of feeling like I was just settling because I didn't deserve better. I smoked, I drank, I was lazy and it showed. I remember looking at all those competition photos in Oxygen magazine, amazed and flabbergasted at how these women looked.
I loved the power, strength, charisma, femininity they bestowed. I wanted that. I didn't know how I was going to do it, but my mission was set. 5 years and counting on that mission, I am!
My diet varied daily whether I was on a high carb, moderate carb or low carb day of my carb cycle. All of my meals are clean, fresh and natural.
Post Workout: Meal 3-5: Meal 6: I would have my coffee in the morning with SF Coffee syrup, and drank at least a gallon of water a day. I would occasionally have Diet Lipton Green Tea mid day or Crystal Light! One thing is a must, though. You have to be dedicated to yourself enough to not drink alcohol. You essentially ruin any and all hard work with alcohol consumption.
I followed a pretty strict training schedule with Emma-Leigh from BodySpace. She'd kill me if I gave you exact wokouts! I can tell you this: We usually hit each body part twice per week. All exercises listed were done in one of the sets x reps listed and were rotated. Example: 5x5; 4x6; 3x8; 2x12. Not one workout was ever the same.
After my leg workouts I typically did 10-15 minutes of incline treadmill walking, and on some days I would have to do about 30-45 minutes of walking away from my leg workout on that same day (i.e. walking in the morning and lift at night). Also, I regularly had HIIT after my upper body workouts. For recovery purposes, I did 3-4 stretching sessions per week on top of my post workout stretching. I used the sauna on average once per week, I had myofascial release sessions once every two weeks, and meditated daily!
Carpe` Diem. Seize the day. This quote comes from the movie "Dead Poets Society". Even to this day this movie has set an example of what I live by everyday. Although the movie is about a boy's school and a motivating, passionate teacher that the students didn't allow to get fired from school, the principle is there. The teacher taught the boys to Seize the Day "Carpe` Diem". That is exactly the mission that I have set out on. I want to be the inspirational, passionate, motivating teacher to women and men to stop making excuses and commit to want better for them self. I do not like those that are "whiners" and complain how their life is and they're not doing anything to change it! There are no excuses. I have overcome so much in my life and not once have I ever said "oh poor me". Yeah I had to drop out of college, I lost my job, my dad was an alcoholic. Is there anything that I can do to change the past? No. So I am not going to waste my time whining about what happened.
What I am going to do is control what I can control, do everything I can to get back on my feet and learn from my mistakes. Yes my history makes me who I am today, and I am a richer, finer person because I have overcome many obstacles. And no matter what, no matter what, I have kept pushing and never quit my mission. That is why I want to be an IFBB Figure Pro. I want to stand on that stage and show everyone (especially women) that no matter what you face in life, you can choose to want more for yourself and commit to being the best you that you can be. As the title of my journal says, believe, focus, achieve. ![]()
