My entire life, I was always the skinny kid in class, but that never bothered me because I'd always had friends and none of them were significantly bigger than I was. Throughout high school, I was involved in a couple of sports, I played football for a year, but quit because I had other commitments and I simply wasn't big enough going into the tenth grade. However, when eleventh grade came around, I had hit a huge growth spurt height-wise as I went from 5'4 to almost 6 feet in the course of a summer. Because I had stretched out, I began to notice just how skinny I was, but again, it didn't let it bother me because my best friends were all still the same size. However, once the time for college came around and I went up to school for orientation, I remember passing some of the other students and especially the athletes and that was the first time I ever felt bad about being so skinny.
Because of that feeling that I had and because college is supposed to be a point in people's lives where they "find themselves" or "come into their own", I was determined to become more than the tall skinny kid. When I arrived at college, I start lifting sporadically with my best friend who wrestled in high school, but we were never too consistent and that lasted the entire year. I always joke with him to this day that he doesn't go because he's already big. So when I came home, I told myself I was going to get serious about lifting and I bought a membership to my local Gold's Gym and from there its history.
After buying the membership, I lifted all the time just to get my money's worth and eventually I became addicted and through the help of my friend George from Penn State, in no time I put on weight and constantly had people telling me I'd gotten bigger and I loved it. On top of that, I felt like lifting weights offered the kind of competition with myself that I have always strived for. Not only did weight lifting provide me with positive results in terms of appearance, it made me realize that I was capable of pushing myself to and past my limits which has carried over into many other aspects of my life.
Because I had some experience with lifting with people who were familiar with the weight room, I had a decent idea of the basic exercises to do (i.e. bench press and squats), but I was really naive in terms of sets and weights. This inexperience coupled with my tendency to have to research things before I simply jumped into them caused me to look up multiple workouts through the Bodybuilding.com workout database in order to find one that fit my goals and my schedule. After I did this, I began to lift 5 days out of the week, every day after work. Through the first couple of weeks, I was feeling better about the fact that I was working out but I was not seeing any real results and as luck would have it, it was then when I ran into a guy from Penn State named George who needed someone to workout with and the first thing that went through my mind was that there was no way I could keep up with him, but I realized that this was the perfect opportunity to push myself to catch up with another person who has been lifting for a while. Once I began lifting with George, he told me about all the different types of proteins and supplements and basically introduced me to all of the supplements I still take today. In addition to George helping me with my supplementation, the workout we did was catered towards gaining muscle mass which was right up my alley and he was constantly pushing me to do more.
On top of that, he was consistently at the gym and never missed any days which motivated me to make sure I never missed any days either. From then on, the results just kept coming and I eventually became so addicted to the gym that I always looked forward to the workout and enjoyed the fact that I was sore the next day. When we were working out, we were working out on a 5 day split and I would implement cardio through playing basketball with friends and occasionally run on the treadmill. In addition to working out 5 days a week, I also cut out the junk foods, fast foods, etc except for the occasional cheat meal on the weekends to keep me sane.
In terms of helping me gain and keep mass, CellMass in my opinion is one of the best creatine products on the market today, but the whey is absolutely necessary.
I never really measure the amount of food in terms of cups, I just eat a portion that is substantial enough to fill me without me feeling like I'm going to be sick. Also I make sure to eat foods that I like because it's not going to do you any good if you don't like what you're eating.

I do abs around 3 other days out of the week, but only one or two exercises which is why I dedicate Saturdays completely to abs and cardio. Cardio at the gym depends on how many times I play basketball during the week. I try to have at 2 to 3 cardio days out of the week. Recently, I've began to implement at HIIT cardio program as opposed to running at a steady pace for 20 to 30 minutes.
