Why I Got Started
I struggled with a weight problem my entire life. By the time I was in 6th grade I was pushing about 140 lbs and ended junior high school at about 160 lbs. Since 4th grade, when I began doing my mom's fitness videos in the living room, I knew that exercising was one of the key ingredients to a healthy lifestyle and a fit body.

But due to a lack of guidance (My parents never fed us right! We ate ice cream for breakfast!), nothing else clicked for me. I tried everything from exercising, trying to eat right, diet pills, bulimia, anorexia, etc and nothing worked.
I remember crying myself to sleep wondering why I was like I was.

Why I couldn't lose weight; why I wasn't strong enough to stick to something. January 1, 2005, everything mysteriously "clicked". I don't know why it clicked, who made it click, what made it click - but it clicked. I finally reached that point where enough is enough and everything shifted into place.

How I Did It
I spent the first six weeks purely trying to control my diet. Eating half of what I would normally eat and eating six times a day. At this point I did not exercise, just concentrated on my diet. After the initial six weeks, I started adding a 30-minute lunch time walk one day a week, then a 30-minute walk two days a week, and so on.

I lost about 37 lbs in about 9 months just from walking outside during my lunch hour and/or on the treadmill! After the nine-months I started adding other machines, like the elliptical. I also added weight training.

Supplements
I started out taking Hot Rox, which I believe helped me very much. But I stopped taking this product to do it the natural way - the right way. I started eating "clean" and avoiding all processed foods. I also began taking a multivitamin, zinc, vitamin C, chromium, CLA, omega-3, and acidophilus on a daily basis.

Suggestions For Others
Patience, consistency, and moderation are the three key elements. I'm not going to lie, the weight loss process freaking sucks. It sucks to have to lose 85 + lbs of hardcore fat. It sucks changing your lifestyle.
It sucks to be eating tuna while everyone else is enjoying a beautifully greasy pizza fully loaded with crap and watching your boyfriend devour a piece of rich peanut butter cheesecake. It sucks to be at the gym on a Friday night while your friends are at the bar drinking and laughing.

But all that sacrificing - all those "withdraws" - all that irritation of having to be "good" all the freaking time is well worth it. It sucks, I don't doubt that, but it's the best present you can give to yourself. That's when you find out who you really are.
It's hard and was the hardest thing I've had to do in my life, but if you are patient - and I mean really patient - and consistent it will come off. I find that it tended to come off and I came together the most when I least expected it. When I thought I hit a plateau, that's when I realized I was actually losing.

It will come off; a person's body just needs a little help trying to find its balance. Don't cheat yourself, work with your body and try to have fun with it. Just do what you can do and take every moment for that moment. It will happen; you just have to wait for that moment. It will happen, and you will make it happen.
