Why I Got Started
I always wanted to compete in a bodybuilding competition since I was in high school. I was always busy in college and in graduate school to discipline myself enough to do it. I kept waiting for the right time. I realized that the right time will never come unless I make time to do it. I realized that life was too short not to go after your dreams.

How I Did It
I am currently in graduate school for physical therapy and this takes up 80% of my time. The rest of my time is devoted to staying healthy. In the past I made food choices based on time. I usually went for what was easy because I did not have time to prepare meals throughout college. I did it by cutting out all junk foods and getting serious about my health.
I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease in January 2007. Leading a healthy lifestyle is a great way to help deal with the disease.

What Is Crohn's Disease?
Crohn's disease is a chronic inflammatory disease of the intestines. It primarily causes ulcerations (breaks in the lining) of the small and large intestines, but can affect the digestive system anywhere from the mouth to the anus.

Eliminating most processed foods made me feel so much better. I made time ad I prepared all of my meals at home. On Sunday's I would cook for the week and freeze it. This made everything easier and helped me to avoid the temptation of eating fast food.

Advice To Others
Do bodybuilding for yourself - You are your own competition... continue to strive to better yourself. I have plenty of guys tell me that they don't like muscles or they like their women thick. Well I don't like my arteries thick and I won't sacrifice my health to look thick in a pair of jeans.
Write down everything and have a plan - Every plan will not work and you must do what works for you. Trial and error is how you find your way in this sport. I find out new things everyday about how my body responds to certain things. One cheat meal a week is a good thing because it helps to keep you from cheating during the week.
Do not deprive yourself from food - If you are hungry then you need to eat something healthy. This is not a starvation sport. Remember that God is first in everything that you do. It is so easy to get wrapped up in yourself and forget about what's most important in life.
Balance is key - I see so many people neglect the ones they love for bodybuilding. Remember that these people were there for you when you weighed a ton!
Staying fit involves proper diet, nutrition, and rest.
Avoid overtraining because you might start something that you can't finish. I see too many people join health clubs and go all out for two weeks then you never see them again. Bodybuilding takes time and patience. So work hard and everything will fall into place.
