Journal Entry Part #3
Well since my last journal entry I have competed in the Figure Category at two small regional shows. The first one took place on April 26th (Level 1) and the second (Level 2) on May 3rd. I haven't really changed my program. I am still doing cardio in the morning's 7 days a week for 45 minutes (usually bike) and after my workouts for 30 minutes (usually treadmill) and a Pilate's class for one hour once a week. My training is the same; working out 4 days a week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday) and weekends are suppose to be mainly geared towards routine practice and rest from working out. For my first show I completed a full body de-carb circuit 3 times in the morning prior to eating anything.
I did not stop training until this time or stop cardio, as my main goal is to keep losing fat until the Nationals. I tried a small
carb-up starting on Friday and consisted of chicken and potato alternating with oatmeal and a sugar/glucose filling. I reduced my water intake at 5pm on Friday night, took a diuretic, and applied one coat of Jana Tana. I had one high fat meal on Friday night. Saturday morning the day of the show I ate a carb/fat breakfast and then switched to lower carbs throughout the day except for Pizza (without cheese) for dinner after pre-judging.
For this show I found my color was too light - I usually apply one coat of Pro-Tan prior to Jan Tana but it's hard to get off and I wanted to reduce the smudging this causes as I had a show the following weekend. I also found that carb-loading didn't really work in my favour as I felt I had looked better earlier in the week. I placed second in this show.
For the show the following week I kept my regular diet, cardio, and my regular workout up to including Friday. I drank a half of bottle of wine and took one diuretic Friday night. I had Pro-Tan applied to me on Friday night and Jan Tana on Saturday morning. I reduced my water intake Saturday morning and ate a high fat breakfast and the remainder of the day stuck with chicken and potato except after pre-judging around dinner I had some cheeseless pizza. I felt this worked better for me. I placed third in this show.
My game plan for the Nationals is to come in leaner, harder, and fuller as this is the difference between Figure and Fitness. I think the judges for Figure are looking more for a pretty beach body, and Fitness they are looking for an athletic body with more emphasis on a routine. I am on a low carb-eating plan, which I will continue on until Friday before the show , when I reduce my water intake and introduce diuretics.
This will eliminate the need for a carb up as previously I was on a ketogenic diet so I needed the carbs to prevent me from looking too flat. Friday night and possibly Saturday morning I will consume a high fat meal to help "fill" me up. I have found that chocolate, steak, and french fries works well for me. I will stick with the combination of Pro-Tan and Jan Tana. My waist was last measured at 26 ½ inches and weighed 142 pounds.
