The Question: Many well known Pros, along with some that may be unfamiliar, will be making their mark in this show which is being put on for the first time. It is expected to be a great show and with the top three qualifying for the Olympia, will likely be a very close and fierce battle! Give your opinion on who will be in the Top Ten and give full details for why you believe it will go down that way. 2006 Colorado Pro Men's Competitors:

The 2006 Shawn Ray Colorado Pro Show takes place May 12-13th in Denver, Colorado, USA. Shawn Ray has done a h*ll of a job offering the third largest cash prize ($72,000 total) of any bodybuilding competition next to the Arnold Classic and The Olympia. The 1st place winner will receive $25,000 and second place wins a cool $10,000 (what most pro shows offer the 1st place winner). The show also has some great opportunities for fans to win everything from a Hummer H3 to flat screen televisions. You can find more information at Coloradoproshow.com. In this inaugural show, there is some great young talent and some of the top veterans. Some of the great story lines of this year include the big three young guns making their pro debut. These competitors are Bill Wilmore (Nationals overall winner), Marcus Haley (North America's overall winner), and the great Phil Heath (Mr. USA overall).
The newest story line is the emergence of the veteran Gary Strydom! He was a titan in the end of the 1980's and early 90's. He finished 5th at the 1988 Olympia (won by Haney), and third in the 1989 Arnold Classic (won by Rich Gaspari). He is making his triumphant return at the ripe tender age of 47 years old (hey, if Vince Taylor can do it!).

Frank Roberson is a h*ll of an athlete that has a crazy cowboy posing style that definitely gets the crowd going. Talking to him is even better. The guy is crazy and makes you laugh constantly! I got the honor to talk to him at the Arnold Classic expo in 2006 as he prepared for the 2006 San Francisco Pro show. He looked incredible. Although in this show I don't feel that he will place in the top 10, he does have a lot of growth and time left in the sport, and in due time he will be knocking on the door. *Inside information has said that Frank is skipping the Colorado Pro.
Another great athlete is Derik Farnsworth. Derik can't be taller than 5'1 or 5'2 and still packs on some mass. People might say "he only weighs 160 some pounds" but with his conditioning and height, he looks massive! I got to see him pose down at the '06 Arnold Expo at the Sly booth. He has some massive legs and is very cordial when you meet him. The only thing working against him is his size, and I feel that he has a great physique but in these days, he just can't mass up with the monsters.
Jason is a veteran that won the overalls at the 1998 USA's. He has done moderately well in the pro ranks with many top 10's. I feel that this is a good competition and will be hard for someone like Jason to get looks. The top 10 is quite possible, but I think he will be on the outside looking in.
Bill is a young gun in the IFBB. Bill is a veteran to amateur ranks but now is playing with the big boys. Bill qualified by winning the Nationals Overall Championships. Bill's back is incredible but seems to be missing a bit of arm size and wider quads that may be holding him back. I think he will do quite well but be outside the top 10.
* denotes Olympia Qualifier
Most people don't know about this guy but you will soon. He is another huge mass monster from Europe. This time he is the man from Sweden (if pronounced 'SweDAN' it even rhymes!). This guy is a monster, and from pictures of him during his amateur days, he can have some awesome conditioning. He came in a bit soft at the Iron Man Pro, but I think this time he can make it into the top 10.
Haley's comet is ready to blast through the IFBB. Marcus won the overall at the North American Championships last year. This guy is massive and has a very complete physique. Most people like Bill more, but I think that Marcus has better legs and arms. I think ninth will be a great start for him.
Gary is making is triumphant return and from what I can see, he looks d@mn good! I am afraid that the IFBB will still remember him leaving for the short-lived WBF, and may cut him down some because of it. I think he looks magnificent - but can he compete with the superstars of today? I pick him as a dark horse with a great chance of doing well, but at this time I would put him at #8.
What a freaking beast! This guy is thick, strong, and beastly. Eryk isn't the tallest but he showed everyone at the Iron Man Pro by finishing eighth that conditioning and mass is the only thing that matters. I think he will move up to 7th.
Abzilla! The guy has conditioning down but has a major problem competing with the mass monsters. I think he will come in peeled, but will have a lot of problems getting the right looks from the judges. He may surprise us though and come in like he did at the 2005 New York Pro where many people had him beating Darrem Charles. I think he will fall around 6th and could up to the 3rd place range.
George is the third pro that I have had the pleasure of meeting. Actually I have met George on three separate occasions. I met him at the 2005 Arnold expo, the 2005 Charlotte Pro Show Pre-judging, and at this year's Arnold expo. This guy is super nice, but what is even better is his story and his physique. The guy has crazy conditioning and I can definitely see him crack the top 5 and maybe top 3 depending on how a few competitors come in.
I know a lot of people will say he is going to win the show, and everything, but lets face it, we have not seen him compete against any top pros. Sure he won the Junior Nationals and the USA's rather easily, but what about the pros? This is unknown.

Phil has a phenomenal physique and his possibilities are endless, but until we see him next to a Darrem Charles or David Henry, we will not know actually how good he is. For his pro debut I think he will be top 4 and definitely be top three with the momentum and magazines on his side.
Troy Alves is definitely a classic bodybuilder. He was built with the same tools as classics like Lee Labrada and Shawn Ray. He isn't big, but definitely carries enough mass to compete with anyone. If his hamstrings and glutes come in, he can win the whole thing, but based on what he has done this year, I would have to put him at 3rd.
To View Lee Labrada's Top-Selling Products, Click Here.
David Henry seems to be the legendary David from the Biblical tale. No giant will get in his way, and if they do, they are going down! Only Lee Priest could barely stop him from getting his first pro win at the 2006 Iron Man.
To Listen To The Latest David Henry Interview, Click Here.
I feel that he will avenge his poor showing at the Arnold Classic this year and only one man will be able to stand in his way. He will come in shredded with even more beef packed on to his short frame. He will be impressive.
Darrem is just unbelievable. What pro in this competition has the conditioning, the muscle maturity, and his size to compete with him? No one in this competition. The only thing that may stop Darrem is the hype that Phil is getting but I don't think it will happen in this competition. Looking at pictures posted a few weeks out shows that Darrem is right on to do some damage at this show and the New York show.
Overall, I feel that the inaugural Shawn Ray Colorado Pro Show will be one that we remember because of the young talent and also the return of Gary Strydom. If Phil Heath could pull pff the victory, he would be in the company of Flex Wheeler winning the first pro show he entered. It would be great for a young gun to win their first show, but I feel that he would have to come in 5 times better than he did at the USA's to take down Darrem, David, or Troy. * denotes Olympia Qualifier
"We are not going to be business as usual."
-Shawn Ray
No one thought this show would happen, everyone said it couldn't be done, especially in Denver. However, Shawn Ray, along with NPC chairman Jeff Taylor, are making this show happen... and it is bigger than anyone, including them, expected it to be.
This show is unlike any competition before.
The prize money is one of the largest in bodybuilding, behind only the Olympia and Arnold Classic. The first place finisher will receive $25,000, the second place finisher will receive $10,000, and the third place finisher will be paid $5,000. At most bodybuilding shows, if you finish outside of the top five, you finish outside of the money... not at this show. Shawn Ray will be paying the top ten finishers.
To View 2006 Olympia Details, Click Here.
The prize money isn't the only thing driving the competitors. The top three finishers will receive an automatic bid into the Olympia, which is worth more than the actual money itself for some competitors. Also, the best poser of the night will be awarded ten thousand dollars, which is obviously much larger than many other "Best Poser Awards."
Recently named as one of the fittest cities in America, Denver is a great location to house this event. Denver is the home to many teams, including football, hockey, basketball and arena football. However, it has been a while since Denver has been the home of a bodybuilding competition. Also, the show will take place in the newly renovated, 792,000 square foot Colorado Convention Center, which is only another added perk.
For the first time in history, at a bodybuilding competition, a brand new Hummer H3 will be given away to a fan in attendance and not a competitor. This alone will bring in tons of new fans! Many other prizes will be given away to the fans in attendance. Some of these prizes will include a laptop, flat screen TV, tickets to the Olympia, CD player, gift certificates, iPods, and much more. This show certainly is aimed to please the spectator. For another first, the ESPN Zone will serve as the official restaurant of the competition. This will provide the public a glimpse into the bodybuilding world, as the pre-judging and the finals will be shown at the Zone.
Also, in addition to that, our very own Bodybuilding.com will be covering this show. This show may certainly bring many new fans to the sport and who knows? One of them may very well be a future champion!

But enough of all that, let's get down to business...
This will certainly be a great competition to watch. There is tons of talent, including competitors from every age and experience level. There are three competitors making their pro debut: Philip Heath (winner of the overall title at the 2005 USA's), Bill Wilmore (winner of the overall title at 2005 Nationals), and Marcus Haley (winner of the 2005 NPC North American Championship). Gary Strydom is trying to make a triumphant comeback to the sport of bodybuilding at an age near 50 (47 years old). Strydom looks better now than he did back when he first competed in the IFBB, but can he hang in there with all of the younger competitors? I guess everyone will have to wait to see...
Troy Alves wasn't among the first list of names that was revealed, however, he is ready to compete now. Earlier this year he competed at the Iron Man Pro where he was a top contender, but performed poorly. Then, a few weeks later, he competed in the Arnold Classic, and again, he did not perform his best.
To Listen To The Latest Troy Alves Interview, Click Here.
Troy is a throwback bodybuilder, the bodybuilder of the people. He is not among the mass monsters, but he has great muscularity that he shreds up come competition time. Look for him to make an improvement.
Bui is simply massive all over. He nailed his conditioning at the Nationals when he turned pro, and performed well in the competition out in Pasadena. If he can nail his conditioning for this competition, he could shake up the top five. Look out.
Darrem Charles is one of the veterans in this competition. He is probably the second best poser in bodybuilding, behind only "Marvelous" Melvin Anthony. I would look for Darrem to win the 10K for the Best Poser award.
Last year, Darrem won both the New York Pro and the 2005 Toronto Pro and is certainly a top contender at this competition. His strong points are other competitor's weaknesses. I would look for that, and his experience, to help him.
Phil Heath has chosen to stay in Colorado instead of packing up and moving to California, the home of bodybuilding. Heath says, "I decided to stay in Colorado for one major reason, because I started my new life [bodybuilding] here and the fan support and atmosphere here is fantastic." You can expect the fans to be backing Heath at the competition this weekend! At competition time, Phil will come in weighing at around 225 pounds. He has added much to his physique since his win at the USA's and this improvement has been creating a much deserved "buzz." Heath has improved his muscularity and conditioning. He has a great physique and is only 26 years old.
Click To Enlarge.Phil Heath At The 2005 Junior Nationals. Special Thanks To Bill Comstock For The Photos. He is certainly the future of bodybuilding. It will be interesting to see how he performs in his first competition. The only negative thing I see in Heath is his lack of experience on a stage, which could result in a lower placing. It will be fun to watch. Perhaps we could witness history.
Then, in his next competition, the Arnold Classic, Henry improved on his muscularity but lacked the conditioning and definition he at the Iron Man. Henry has greatly improved since turning pro, but I don't know if it will be enough to win, or even place in the top five of this competition.
His experience and conditioning will push him ahead of the competitors behind him. When compared to Heath, he will expose the weakness in his lower body. No one in this competition can bring the overall package like Darrem can and he will be the one holding the $25,000 check at the end of the night.
To Listen To The Latest Darrem Charles Interview, Click Here.
Heath is a pure mass monster and has improved his conditioning from when he turned pro. However, his inexperience and lack of mass in his lower body will cause him to drop below Darrem into the second spot. Heath could be pushed ahead of Darrem, considering the competition is in his hometown. That will be something to watch for.
In his previous competitions, Alves was bested by Henry because he missed the mark on his conditioning. However, I doubt that will happen again. If Alves really dials it in and brings up his hamstrings and glutes, you could look for him to move up to two or even three. However, that is very unlikely.
If Alves misses his conditioning again, Henry could look to take advantage and move up a spot. Anything more than that is very unlikely. Henry cannot compare to the top two competitors and will not be able to touch them at this competition. He is always a fan favorite though. He will be fun to watch.
Strydom is making his return to bodybuilding, and oh, what a return it will be. In recent pictures, Strydom has looked very solid. His upper body is comparative with the top contenders. Like others, his downfall is his legs. If he nails his conditioning, he could look to crack the top 3.
Bui is thick all over. He will bring a very strong package and could look to possibly jump into the top five. He easily could have placed a few spots higher in his past competitions, but the competition wasn't as stiff as it is here. If Strydom doesn't perform well, look for Bui to jump into the top five.
This is Wilmore's first professional competition and I look for him to perform well. He is very massive but lacks size in his legs. His back will be one of the best on stage, but his upper body dwarves his lower body. His physique is too disproportional to make a big impact.
To View Symmetry Articles, Click Here.
Farah has freaky mass and is always in great condition. His muscles are veiny and ripped but I think his placing depends on how the other competitors perform. He could jump ahead of Bui and Wilmore without a doubt, possibly even to the top 3. Whether or not that will happen is yet to be seen.
Ahmad Haidar undoubtedly has the best abs in the game. He is always fun to watch onstage. He has one of the best physiques and constantly nails his conditioning. He could look to move up a few spots, but he lacks the mass to do any real damage.
This is also Haley's first professional competition. He has a great physique, but can never seem to nail his conditioning. If he does, he can look to move up a few spots, possibly into the top five.
This competition will certainly be fun to watch. Many of the emerging story lines are providing some interesting rivalries. No one truly knows how this one will turn out. I am sure Shawn Ray never saw this coming - I know I didn't. One thing I do know is that this show will be a hit, with the competitors and the fans. I can't wait to see what happens. Good luck to all of the competitors!
I constructed a system that is kind of like a school's GPA (grade point average) but I call it "BPA". BPA is an acronym for 'Bodybuilding Point Average.' Below is a list from 1st to 10th. Each person will have a detailed explanation for why he was placed in the specific area, broken out by specific bodypart or ability.
This man's abs are absolutely AMAZING! His definition and lining is prime and will catch the judges' eyes just as any abs would on the beach. His physique is large and his abs give him a leaner look which would contribute greatly towards his chances. Grade = 10/10 ![]() Look at Ahmad's Abs!
His massive legs add to the illusion of a massive figure. The shredded and clean rivets show determination and power. His glutes, hamstrings, quadriceps and calves are all accounted for and play a great role in his physique. Grade = 9/10
His chiseled back is enormous. It is amazing how defined it is. The rivets are easily spotted and his V shaped body is absolutely perfect. Grade = 9.5/10
WOW! This man's arms are incredible! He doesn't have OVERLY large arms, which is a good thing, and his arms seem more normal and add to his natural massive look. He really out does himself with his triceps and deltoids. They are worked perfectly and have great definition. His biceps are decent size, not overly large. His forearms are as big as grapefruits and they don't seem to distort his physique. Grade = 9/10
Even though I added this category I think that his facial features and hair style play a great role. He has a handsome face and a serious look which adds towards his points. Grade = 9.5/10
Overall I think he will win and here is his BPA (Body Point Average), similar to that style of the good old days of high school and college GPA's: BPA = 3.76
Great abs which illustrates how lean and mighty he has become but he doesn't have an 8 pack which hurts him a bit. Overall his abs helps him greatly. Grade = 8.5/10
Great legs! Massive and powerful. Also veins are visible which adds towards his points. All of muscle groups visible and easy to see. Grade = 9/10
Is amazing how defined it is. The rivets are easily spotted and his V shaped body is acceptable but not perfect. Overall his back adds towards his points. Grade = 9/10
AMAZING!!! This man's arms are incredible! His large arms add to his massive look. He really out does himself with his biceps and deltoids. They are worked perfectly and have great definition. His biceps are incredibly huge. His forearms are as big as oranges and they aide towards his perfect set of arms. Grade = 10/10
He has cunning look and a military style look which adds towards his points. Grade = 9.7/10
BPA = 3.696
Amazing abs which demonstrate dedication and power. His obliques are really outstanding and aid towards his V shape look. Overall his abs helps him greatly. Grade = 9/10
WOW, those are HUGE! THOSE ARE DESTRUCTIVELY HUGE. Veins are flying everywhere which add towards his points. All muscle groups visible easy to see. Best body part he has. Grade = 10/10
Great V body for a last year's champion. He improved in the upper lats but overall amazing gains. Grade = 9/10
THOSE ARE B-I-G!!! His large arms add to his massive look. He really out does himself with his biceps, deltoids, forearms, and TRICEPS. They are worked perfectly and have great definition. His forearms are incredibly huge. His forearms are as big as cantaloupes and they aide towards his perfect set of arms. Grade = 9.7/10

He has mischievous look and a coldish style which kind of degrades his chance towards his points. Grade = 8/10
BPA = 3.656
Too bulky. They really distort his figure but they are decent. They show determination and effort. Grade = 8/10
Golden buff turkey legs! Gigantic and powerful. Also veins are visible which adds towards his points. All of muscle groups visible and easy to see. By far one of his best. Grade = 9/10
BEST PART OF HIS BODY! It is amazing how defined it is. The rivets are easily spotted and his V shaped body as perfect as the best of the best. His back definately adds towards his points. Grade = 10/10
Too bulky but AMAZING!!! His large arms add to his massive look. He really out does himself with his biceps and deltoids. His forearms are as big as 3 apples and they aide towards his points. Grade = 9/10
He has dashing look and a military style look which definately adds towards his points. Grade = 9/10
BPA = 3.6
Way too bulky. They really distort his figure but they are decent. They show extreme definition but lack a natural look. Grade = 7/10
Misleading. They seem big but there is a spot where I don't see any rivets or veins. Never the less they are big and powerful. Most of muscle groups visible and easy to see. Not one his best though. Grade = 8/10
It is amazing how defined it is. The rivets are easily spotted and his V shaped body as perfect as the best of the best. His back definately adds towards his points. Grade = 9.5/10
AMAZING!!! His large arms add to his massive look. He really out does himself with his biceps and deltoids. His forearms are as big as melons and they aide towards his points. Grade = 9.5/10
He has assertive look and a torso high style look definately adds towards his points. Grade = 9/10
BPA = 3.44
Perfect but not quiet there! Defined and easily spotted. Grade = 8/10
BIG, BIG & BIG! They have lots of rivets and veins. Never the less they are big and powerful. Most of muscle groups visible and easy to see. One of his best! Grade = 9/10
FREAK I TELL YOU! AMAZING... ONE OF THE BEST BACKS SEEN! I give him props for the complete definition and perfect physique. Grade = 9.8/10
the best in the world but will do. Biceps, Deltoids, triceps and forearms all seem a little smaller than his competition. Not one of his best. Grade = 8/10
He has freakish look and an utterly awkward style look that definitely depletes some of his points. Grade = 8/10
BPA = 3.424
Perfect! Defined and easily spotted. But no 8 pack! ONE OF HIS BEST! Grade = 9/10
Big, small and kind of big! They have lots of rivets and veins. Never the less they are big and powerful. Most of muscle groups visible and easy to see. Not the best I have seen. Grade = 8/10
A bit smaller than others. But does him well and aides him a bit. But by far his lowest score. Grade = 7/10
Good but not GREAT! I see all the same but still is outstanding compared to some people. Overall his arms are pretty d@mn good. Grade = 8.8/10
He has friendly look and a companionate style look that definately helps him. Grade = 9/10
BPA = 3.344
Not the greatest but decent. I give him props for trying. Grade = 8/10
Well not utterly HUGE or AMAZING but ok. I think he did a good job but could have done better. Grade = 7/10
TOO BIG! WAY TOO BIG! Makes him a curling V instead of a nice V. So it degrades his points and chances. Grade = 7.5/10
By far the best body part he has! HUGE, AMAZING and HUGE! All veins visible and works great for him. Grade = 10/10
He has an old weirdo look and a style look that definately helps him. Grade = 9/10
BPA = 3.32
Great, but not quite there! Defined and easily spotted. Grade = 7/10
BIG, BIG & BIG! They have lots of rivets and veins. Never the less they are big and powerful. Most of muscle groups visible and easy to see. One of his best! Grade = 9/10
A bit small compared to the rest. Grade = 6/10
Not the greatest I have seen. Many others are 2-3 times bigger and more defined. Grade = 6/10
He has sympathetic look and charming style but doesn't cut it. Grade = 7/10
BPA = 2.8
Too bulky. There is no prime definition. They really distort his figure but they are decent. Grade = 6/10 ![]() Marcus Haley: Too Bulky?
Small for his body. But they are decent. Veins visible which aid his appearance. Grade = 6.8/10
By far it is the BEST PART OF HIS BODY! It is amazing how defined it is. The rivets are easily spotted and his V shaped body. His back definately gets points back. Grade = 9/10
Not the greatest I have seen. Seem undefined compared to others. Grade = 7/10
He has stunning look but his a non-assertive style look decreases his chances. Grade = 6/10
BPA = 2.784
The above list is how I think the contest will go down. I hope they all do well, and in the end the Lebanese (Ahmad Haidar) will win! Good Luck!

* Competitor list last updated 5/09/2006
Marcus is a new-comer to the pro stage, but he is making his mark quick. He has great genetics that I'm sure he's going to meet up with. He has excellent leg development, but his job will be to catch up all his body parts and make his body more symmetrical. Also he is trying to tune in with his conditioning on stage, he is definitely someone we should keep an eye out for!
It's good to be back! Gary has awesome genetics, but his condition now is far away from what he's know to be capable of. He has excellent delts, and great conditioning for show. Could he manage to work on his body, and build it up to the amazing standard that his body would allow him to?
To View A Photo Of Gary, Click Here.
Great competitor from Europe. He is slowly, but surely improving his physique and I personally believe that he has great potential for impressive development. He has to work on his conditioning and if he nails that right he has a great chance of coming in at the top 10, if his conditioning is bad and he comes in watery and soft, he won't have that privilege.
To View A Thumbnail Of Martin, Click Here.
Great competitor, with awesome genetics! He is a personal friend, and he has worked very hard for where he's at. It all started with a dream and an investment in a GNC shop, and Eryk has worked his way to the pros. He made an impressive placing at the Iron Man, and he has personally told me that he has big plans for 2006. This contest will be a chance for him to set an impression that the IFBB won't forget!
To View A Photo Of Eryk, Click Here.
George Farah is known for his leg development. He is working hard to set the same impression for his upper body too! Good conditioning and great leg development will help George get to the top 6. With world class competitors the stakes get higher and the pressure grows. Will George even up his body, and bring out his upper body. We may be surprised at how much he's improved!

2005 NPC USA Champion winner is out to set new boundaries. Coming in with amazing conditioning for his young pro career, and impressive size and overall symmetry Phil is not someone we should overlook. The future has great things in store for this young man!

Think abs and conditioning. Ahmad should pop into your head within the next few seconds. With amazing abs that he is well known for, his conditioning is top notch. Although smaller, it's quality over quantity according to this fellow! I predict he will come in at 4th and shake up the competition!
To View A Photo Of Ahmad, Click Here.
Amazing genetics, and awesome conditioning. David Henry comes in with an amazing physique that always impresses judges. He's not all about size as his nick name (the giant killer) would suggest, but he brings quality to the stage. That's why he will also go to the Olympia.
Troy might not compare to Ronnie Coleman's size, but he sure packs in quality and his conditioning is topnotch. He never seems to stop amazing me personally, as each of his contests I'm astonished at his improvement and how good his conditioning is. I would have put him as number one, but I do believe that he will be the second best on that day.

This is it, folks - the crowd stopper! Darrem packs in quality and great conditioning. I believe that he has something special that all the other competitors will lack on that day. His conditioning for this show is amazing. I believe that he will shake up the stage and take up the #1 spot.

This will be an exciting new show that will go down in history! Good Luck to all the competitors!

Comments on reasoning for placement were just too vague in this instance. A good effort, however, and overall good writing.
