The Modeling Industry.
So, I have told you my sad story on competing in my first figure competition. If you thought that was a laugh, "buy the book" JK. Although, it may make for a fairly entertaining read.
I have focused all my energy into becoming a model since I first saw Brooke Shields. I even practiced the famous commercial over and over gain in the bath as a child. "Don't hate me because I'm beautiful" (laughing) too funny. You name the bogus Model Search and I was there. Oh you only want a cabillion dollars and I'll be the next Cindy? Dish it over mom, what are you waiting for... So you live and you learn or NOT.
I have gotten on planes, trains and automobiles in pursuit of this dream, only to learn the dreaded truth of the fashion world. Sorry honey, your too short, don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out!" What? It's over, not for this chic it wasn't. I went on to pursue more YES more fly by night modeling conventions. Always hoping that this time it would be different, my big break. I was even scouted once in a local mall.
I should have known better, hello, that is why we have that thing called instinct... To actually listen to it once and awhile. So, I show up at this old mill, only to find myself surrounded by hundreds of other hopefuls, who just had the look, I mean we were ALL going to be Supermodels.
I'm going to pee myself over here for laughing so hard at my own stupidity. Oh and how could I forget the agents... yes, you know the type. "Hi I'm like an agent, and I can introduce you to the best photographers in the business, I'll have you on the cover of Oxygen baby, just shoot me over some photos." PA-lease...
The Fitness Industry
I have found the same scams in the Fitness Industry. Scams are everywhere, it's a business. So, I started marketing myself. I started my own website and sent out photos to any fitness magazine that would accept them. I made up business cards and traveled to different fitness and bodybuilding events for extra exposure. I began shooting with various photographers to get a good feel in front of the camera on a TFP basis and I did my research.
I also put my biography and portfolio up on different fitness sites like Bodybuilding.com's Amateur Fitness competitor of the week, lean ladies, Fitness Atlantic, Fit Sights and also became a Cover Girl for the Fitness America pageant. You have to get yourself out there. Now, I have an agency and that takes out the dirt beneath MY nails! See my story here.
Just about every fit gal wants to be a fitness model. That is why just like you she spends hours in the gym sculpting her body. I was at the Arnold Classic and I will say this. Every other person who walked by was a Drop Dead Gorgeous Hard Body handing out her Comp cards! So, unless you are in the right place at the right time, being in shape, isn't going to land you a cover!
I still have a lot of hard work ahead of me, I have to constantly stay in top shape, but if you know me, then you know that I am by far a quitter; I have always been a go-getter. So, just do it, go ahead, I'm done blabbing here. For now!
