This is a review on the book Think & Grow BIG by Peter Siegel. Ever felt like there's something missing in reaching your bodybuilding goals, and that it feels like you are slowly progressing, but then aren't at the same time? Could it be that you don't have the mind-set of a champion yet? Are they using techniques to make their workouts more intense, and get more out of life generally by a very motivated and driven mind-set? Why do only the champions have this, and how did they acquire that in the first place? The answer to these questions is YES; top athletes like this do have a different mind-set and you can work on your own too! Ever heard somebody in the gym say "It's all about how heavy you think it is" and "it's all in your head"? Well guess what, it's true! And the beauty is that this book/cd program can (I say "can" because you do have to commit yourself to it and give it some time, and really stick with it) help you adopt this kind of thinking and bust through new levels of strengths and muscular development.
In addition, I think that - although most of the content in the book is bodybuilding/workout related - some of these thoughts and techniques really can also be applied to other areas of your life. Read on to get a good idea of what this program is about and if maybe it's something that you might like.
Having helped top professional athletes in leagues like the NFL, NHL, NBA, MLB, and bodybuilders who went on to win Mr. America, Mr. Universe, Mr. International, Arnold Classic, and Mr. Olympia titles, Pete Siegel is a very knowledgeable and experienced peak performance hypnotherapist. He is acknowledged by many in Think & Grow BIG (there are ringing endorsements from Victor Martinez, Dorian Yates, Lee Priest, Lee Haney, Mike Christian, Tom Platz, Dave Draper, Boyer Coe, Cory Everson...and IronMan publisher John Balik. Joe Weider himself has even written a full 2 page foreword for the program , go figure!
He now has bundled all of his 30 years experience and knowledge in one book, "Think and Grow BIG", and I had the privilege to read it. My manager called me in, and looked at me weird. He said "I got something really powerful for you right here". Having no idea what he was talking about, I decided to accept it, and write a review about it. As you may have figured out by now, this book is really about techniques and strategies that one can utilize to break through to new levels of strength and muscular development. It outlines the process in a very detailed manner and is accompanied by two very handy self hypnosis CD's. (Each CD has 2 programs; CD #1 covers pre-workout conditioning and strict concentration. CD #2 covers extreme training intensity and breaking through the pain barrier. Full instructions are included with the program!) Furthermore, it has some overall theories on motivation and goal setting, and is very inspiring. To mention an example, one of the things Siegel talks about is that when you really want something, you really can achieve it and are probably made to achieve it. I must mention that this book really is full with motivating words. Very detailed techniques, both pre- and during workouts, are also outlined and discussed step-by-step. They're easy to understand and simple to use. What's So Important About Pre & Post Workout Nutrition? One thing I must mention though is that I believe some people are more sensitive and perceptible to hypnosis and these strategies discussed than others. For example, it is hard for me to get in that certain state. I am a pretty sober person and am not easily influenced by something that would cause me to get into hypnosis.
Having heard many success stories from others though - from others that have applied all the information from this book to their training - it makes me realize even more that it can make a huge difference in some people's bodybuilding progress, but, again, really depends on what kind of person you are, and how serious you are in your training.
Finally, some more technical details about this book; it is easy to read, many words are underlined and/or CAPITALIZED, so it makes it easy to understand the important parts. The spaces in between, the font, along with the vocabulary - which is of moderate difficulty - make it not too hard of a read.
All in all, this is a really interesting book, full with motivation and strategies that can really help you get better results, when used right and when one is really committed and dedicated to it. It would definitely be worth adding to your collection of other training books.
