Eating in college

Those of us who go to school know how hard it is to eat right. The average lunch tray consists of pizza, coke, and french fries. Just the nutrients you need to feed your body, right? Yeah, if you want to be fat, slow and weak. In this article I'm going to talk about what foods to eat and avoid in the college lunch rooms to help you improve your physique over the next four years. It may take a little more willpower being around the junk food, but it's definitely worth it. I'm going to go through my average Wednesday:

7:30 am: 7 eggwhites, 1 yolk (luckily they serve hard boiled eggs, on the days they don't I go for a big plate of eggbeaters. Just be careful... the bottom of the tray is soaked in butter), 2 cups of skim milk, big bowl of Cheerios or oatmeal (depending on how I'm feeling), and a piece of fruit

10:15 am: Workout

11:00 am: 3 scoups of gatorade powder, multi-vitamin, and a protein shake in water.

12:00 pm: A turkey sandwhich (containing lots of turkey) on whole wheat bread that I smuggled out of the cafe, and a cup of fat free yogurt I stole from home... then it's a mad dash to class.

2:30 pm: Another big turkey sandwich on whole wheat bread (I've been living on these things), a big salad, and a small cup of low-fat cottage cheese.

6:00 pm: Yet another turkey sandwhich on whole wheat bread (sometimes I'll have roast beef, which ever one doesn't look like its been sitting out in the sun all day), 2 cups of skim milk, and a salad.

9:00 pm: Whey protein in skim milk that I also smuggled out of the cafe, and a multi-vitamin.

And there you have it! My daily food intake. I think the most important thing to do is to keep an eye out for hidden ingredients in food. For example, they serve egg beaters which would be a lot easier to eat than peeling the shells off all those hard boiled eggs (what a mess) but they are soaked in butter. Things like this will kill you. You gotta be smart when looking for something to eat. I highly reccomend buying a multi-vitamin and a good protein powder and MRP. Not only are they more economical than ordering out (my friends spend 5 bucks on a calzone, I mix up a EAS Myoplex for like $1.60) but they will also help you meet your nutritional requirements much faster.

I'm able to go home each weekend so I try to bring back as much food as possible. I spend a day cooking skinless, boneless chicken breasts so that i can have them during the week. I'll have my mom buy oatmeal, yogurt, cottage cheese, and skim milk (although I run out of that in about a day, so I gotta smuggle it out of the cafe). But it's worth it.

Keep the fridge stocked, keep eating, sleep hard, and get big.
