The 2007 Mr. Olympia contest was a great place for me to check out because I got so many free samples of so many different types of supplements. I got a variety of creatine supplements, NO supplements, and of course, protein supplements!

I received many packets of "Syntrax Nectar Sweets" in the chocolate truffle flavor and looked forward to giving them a try. In the past, I had received many full tubs of various protein powders for review purposes, but in the spirit of efficiency, I will only be ordering sample packs of protein powders in the future.

Review:
Amazing taste for a chocolate isolate. Must use a shaker bottle though, doesn't mix well with a spoon, it will clump. Tastes just like chocolate milk (although a little artificial), great for shakes and digests really quickly.

Since both Bodybuilding.com as well as numerous supplement manufacturer's have been kind enough to provide me with the supplements free of charge, I may as well operate in this type of efficient manner.

I will of course order a few full tubs of protein powder for review since I do drink protein shakes regularly, so having one tub on hand for my daily consumption is important. I should also point out that I'm reviewing this supplement with my protein shake in front of me! It is always good to do that, rather than have to rely on memory.

dot Taste: dot

Syntrax Nectar in the chocolate truffle flavor definitely passes the taste test. Like a lot of chocolate protein blends, it has just about the same taste as chocolate milk when mixed. I was not at home when I prepared my shake and generally when I am at home I would use skim milk, but in this case I used 2% milk. I quite liked the result!

dot Mixability/Texture: dot

I mixed the shake in a glass with milk, stirring it with a spoon. I found that it mixed well for the most part but it did clump at the top of the glass somewhat. More stirring helped matters a little, but it didn't mix instantly and was not quite as easy to mix in a glass as some of the other premium blends that I've tried .

All in all, it was adequate though, and should mixing be a problem, I would recommend mixing it in a blender and if you do decide to do that, I would further recommend that you mix it with fruit such as a banana, and possibly some other ingredients. Blenders work very well to mix all ingredients together in a manner where the taste is consistent as is the overall quality of the shake.

dot Digestibility: dot

Although I just consumed the shake moments ago, I highly doubt I will have any problems digesting it. I have never had a problem digesting protein and I doubt I ever will. As of this moment, I feel perfectly fine and if I was experiencing the onset of digesting problems, I'm sure that I would be aware.

dot Effectiveness: dot

Once again, it is difficult to write about the effectiveness of a food supplement. What I do know is that one serving contains 23 grams of protein and a total of 100 calories which makes it a great bodybuilding snack if consumed alone, or better yet, with milk and a piece of fruit.

dot Taste: dot

Chocolate Truffle: I sampled this flavor in 1% milk. It exhibited what I would describe as a light chocolate taste, kind of like a watered down glass of chocolate milk. However, had I used less milk, I'm sure I would have been able to achieve a thicker chocolate taste, which to me would have been a more desirable taste. Therefore, I award this flavor a 7/10 for taste.

Apple Ecstasy: I sampled this flavor in water. It exhibited what I would describe as a light tangy apple taste. Most exotically flavored (something other than a form of chocolate, vanilla or strawberry) proteins end up tasting pretty brutal. However, I was pleasantly surprised after tasting this flavor, especially because it has 0 sugar and 0 fat! Therefore, I award this flavor an 8.5/10 for taste.

Review:
Love all the flavors of the Syntrax brand whey isolate proteins! These are delicious, and when I am dieting these taste like a treat!

dot Mixability/Texture: dot

For the chocolate truffle flavor, I used a blender to mix it. This particular protein is an isolate, which in most cases means that it blends fairly easy, often with just a spoon. However, with this product, although most of the powder mixed in, it was not a complete mix, as some of it stuck to the sides of the blender.

For the apple ecstasy flavor, I found that it foamed up pretty intensely after I shook it and I was forced to add more water to salvage the protein that was left behind. This action of course led to a watered down taste, which was very undesirable to finish off with. Therefore I award Syntrax Nectar Sweets a 5/10 mixability/texture.

dot Effectiveness: dot

Just as you can expect with any protein supplement review, it is difficult to evaluate the overall effectiveness of the product in the short term. The reason being, unlike creatine and pre-workout amplifiers there is no significant effect.

The purpose of protein is to either get extra calories in your diet or to be used as a meal-replacement on the go. Also, protein supplementation may be used in place of an unhealthy meal, which would be detrimental to any individual seeking an improved physique.

Since I began working out, protein shakes have been a part of my daily diet. The convenience of a protein shake is too good to not take advantage of, when it is so readily available and pleasurably convenient.

dot Overall Review: dot

Just as I noted above, as far as taste goes, I wasn't really impressed. Nevertheless, the taste was pretty good. Some positives that should be noted are Syntrax Nectar Sweets ingredients.

You can expect a mere 1 gram of fat, 1 gram of carbs and 0 grams of sugar, while at the same time getting 23 grams of protein per scoop. Now, this is good news if you are trying to limit your fat and carb intake. Also, 23 grams of protein per scoop is fairly high, so that is good news.

Furthermore, Syntrax Nectar Sweets is a mere 100 calories, so if your looking to lower your overall calorie input, this may be a good choice. Also, considering this is a whey protein isolate, rather than just a whey, you would expect that it would be, as isolates usually are, substantially more expensive.

I found that Syntrax Nectar Sweets was reasonably priced. Therefore, in light of all this information, I award Syntrax Nectar Sweets a 5.5/10 for an overall review.
