Supplement Company Of The Month: MHP
When it comes to success on stage or in the gym, Gerard Dente is a pro. The former competitive bodybuilder knew early on about the importance of quality supplements, so it's no surprise that when he hung up his trunks, he would venture into the supplement industry and create the supplement juggernaut MHP.

With a track record like MHP has had over the years, it was time to give them their due and that is why we are proud to feature MHP as the newest Supplement Company of the Month. We got to talk with Gerard himself about the development of the brand and where they are going in the future.
[ Q ] Can you please tell our readers how your company started?
As a former competitive bodybuilder, I relied heavily on supplementation. I did a lot of my own research on performance enhancement and nutrition and found that there was a lot of available research on nutrients and supplements that weren't being offered to athletes.
So I decided I wanted to start my own supplement company and develop innovative products that weren't currently available.
The first product concept I created was in 1997, when HGH was gaining real popularity in both sports and the anti-aging markets. I developed a natural HGH releaser, Secretagogue-One that quickly became a top selling item in GNC, Vitamin Shoppe and on Bodybuilding.com.
It's great when people who meet me still to this day tell me they love Secretagogue-One and have been taking it for the past 10 years!
[ Q ] Can you tell us about some other important people that helped you out in the beginning?
Dr. Vincent Giampapa was a huge help in getting me started. He actually helped me formulate Secretagogue-One and has been a contributor and great friend. He is one of the most knowledgeable guys I know.
[ Q ] What are some of your top products right now?
XPEL is also a very popular supplement for people looking to lose water weight and dial it in. For post-workout, our Dark Matter sells extremely well. Our new Micronized Whey Isolate; ISOFAST 50 is off to a really great start.
[ Q ] Are there any new and exciting products that you are coming out with soon?
Yes. A few years ago, we invested in creating a Functional Foods Division of MHP. We are getting ready to launch 2 great products - a ready-to eat pudding called Power Pak Pudding, which has 30 grams of protein and is low in carbs and fat. And it tastes amazing!
We are also launching MHP's Super Beef Bites, which is like a Slim Jim but with 20 grams of protein and is also low in fat. We are very excited about this new endeavor.
[ Q ] Is there any other big news about your company that you would like to share with us?
We recently signed 2x World's Strongest Man Zydrunas Savickas to add to our team of World's Strongest Man competitors, including last year's 2nd place finisher Brian Shaw and former World's Strongest Man Phil Pfister.
We also currently have over 8 World Record powerlifing champions. And joining our long-time MHP athlete Victor Martinez on the bodybuilding side, we have IFBB Pros Craig Richardson, Tricky Jackson, Wendell Floyd and Michael Kefalianos.
[ Q ] Have you sponsored any people and if so how have they impacted your company and the industry?
Victor Martinez has been with us for 6 years and has been a great representative of the MHP brand. I couldn't have asked for a better person to represent us and he is a pleasure to work with.
Our dedicated power athletes have helped establish MHP as a leader and most trusted brand in powerlifting. And IFBB Figure pro Angela Mraz also works at MHP as the International Sales Director. I have been fortunate to have great athletes represent our brand and they all have contributed to our success.

[ Q ] Let's say a customer comes to you that is just starting out and can only afford one product. Which one do you recommend and why?
That's a tough question because it really depends on a few factors such as what their goal is and how their diet is. If a person isn't eating enough protein, but is looking to add muscle mass, I would recommend ISOFAST 50. If a person isn't eating enough protein, but is also on a diet and restricting calories, I would recommend our timed release PROBOLIC-SR protein.
If a person is eating enough protein but is trying to lose weight, I would recommend DREN (if the individual isn't sensitive stimulants) and ANADROX (if they are more sensitive to stimulants). If someone feels the need something to fuel their workouts for greater intensity, I would recommend DARK RAGE.
Bottom line: It's important for people to identify what they are trying to achieve and what supplements can address the areas they need to pay attention to.
[ Q ] What do you believe is the best and worst things about the supplement industry?
The best thing is the evolving science and ability to continually create innovative products to help people achieve their performance goals. The bad thing is that since it's a growing industry, you have a lot of companies trying to enter the space with no innovation or quality control standards.
Most of the popular brands are reputable, but there are a few suspect characters out there. Before we wrap this up, is there anything else you would like to share or is there anyone you would like to thank or give a shout out to?
I first want to thank all our customers for their patronage and loyalty to the MHP brand. I also have to thank my wife for putting up with my obsession for my work and long hours I put into it.
I want to thank all our athletes and I especially want to thank my employees for their dedication and commitment to making sure MHP remains true to our mission of producing the highest quality products and attention to customer service.
