Diana Dahlgren Prepares For Bikini Europa 2010
The Flex Swimsuit Special 2010 issue stirred up a lot of talk when the reigning Ms. Figure Olympia was ousted for a rookie. Flex fans wondered, "Who is this sensational new addition to Weider family?" That little known IFBB rookie is former Team Universe Bikini Champion and Southern California native, Dianna Dahlgren. She recently took the time out to chat with us as she prepares for the Europa Battle of Champions, where she plans on earning an invite to the 2010 Olympia.
[ Brian Bullman ] Hey Dianna, I understand you are getting ready to compete for the second time this year, which is hard work, how are you feeling this close to the show?
[ Dianna Dahlgren ]
Hey Brian! I am getting ready for the CT Pro, Dallas Pro, and the Tournament of Champions in LA. I am feeling very weak right now hahaha...but it's all worth it once you get on stage!
[ BB ] Competing in Bikini is a lot different to competing in figure, the look is a little softer and fuller, tell me something about your training that you think competing in the IFBB differs from any other bikini contest?
[ DD ] I have done a bikini competition for Hawaiian tropics and it was a joke. The IFBB is serious. Bikini competitors (at least me, Sonia, Kim Oddo's pros) train hard and have to focus on diet constantly. With preparation, Kim tends to change up my training here and there.
Right now I am on circuit training, but at the beginning of this year he had me on a different body part every day in preparation for the Max Muscle! Kimbo has taken my body and taken me places that I thought weren't possible! He has turned me into an elite athlete. Thank you Kimbo!
[ BB ] You recently placed 7th in your Pro Debut, how did that make you feel and have you made any changes in your diet/training over the last couple of weeks coming into this contest?
[ DD ] Yes I did, and to be honest I was not happy! But I have moved on. For a while I was focusing on it. Sometimes still I get scared coming into my next competitions, "What if I get 7th again?" "What if I don't win?" I psych myself out, but then my trainer sends me a random text message, "How are you doing?" and it motivates me and pushes me more! I have changed my dieting up a lot for this next week and a half doing the usual fish and asparagus! So we will see what happens in CT, I am excited!
[ BB ] You missed out on an Olympia qualification in your pro debut, what will it mean for you to grab one of those coveted invites to Vegas?
[ DD ] I will get my qualification, and when I do I am going to be amazed! To think of all the athletes before me who have worked so hard, and for me to be on the same level...CRAZY! And so ecstatic!
[ BB ] You seem to have taken the bikini division by storm, winning the LA Show last year and then the Team Universe where you turned pro, what does it mean to you to be an IFBB Pro?
[ DD ] To me I thought, "Alright ladies, here comes the serious competition!" When you look at regional and national shows the difference in physiques is such a huge difference. The top place bikini pros are built and super lean! They have nice rounded shoulders, perky butts, tiny mid sections, and that is what you have to strive for while training for a pro show!
[ BB ] With a few more Pro Bikini shows to go before the Olympia, will we see you onstage again, in any of the contests between now and the big O?
[ DD ] Yes you will for sure. Right now both of the Europa's in CT and Dallas. I am also aiming for the Tournament of Champions in LA right before the Olympia!
[ BB ] How did it feel to be on the cover of Flex Magazine this year, you rookie pro year?
[ DD ] Loving it! Such an awesome cover!
[ BB ] You beat out hundreds of candidates for the Flex cover, but Ms Figure Olympia Nicole Wilkens Lee was the other choice, how did it feel when they went with you, a rookie over the best in the business?
[ DD ] Nicole is the best in the business right now, but hey, I could possibly be joining her and standing next to her side this year on the Olympia stage! I definitely was amazed when I got the final word that I had landed the cover! How awesome is it to say I am the one girl this year to grace the cover of FLEX?! Amazing!!
[ BB ] I hear you like to ride bikes, is this true? And if so, can you tell me more about that?
[ DD ] Oh yeah! Growing up, my dad and brother were at the race track every weekend and during the week to practice! I always wanted to be around them, so of course I wanted to do everything they did! I have too many scars to count and too many crashes to think about hahaha, but I absolutely love going to the desert and riding my dirt bike and quads. It's my favorite thing to do besides river season in the summer!
[ BB ] What about supplements? What do you use to get that lean yet feminine look you had in Flex?
[ DD ] Kimbo has me on an array of supplements with my meals and workouts. I take L-Carnitine for cardio and L-Glutamine for recovery. Then with my meals, vitamin c, MRM Digest All and Smart Blends, ALA, and Thyroid vitamin! Oh yeah, and multivitamins in the AM!
[ BB ] The Olympia Bikini show, I want a prediction for Dianna Dahlgren, let us have it?
[ DD ] My goal for this year's Olympia is to have fun! I don't want to worry about my placing because that will not come until September 24th when they announce the top athletes! If I worry about it, I will stress, and stress is not good for me! So we will see what happens. Praying to God everyday!
[ BB ] I'm out of questions for now Dianna thanks for taking the time out this close to the show to talk to us and your fans on Bodybuilding.com.
[ DD ] Thank you Brian! Great interview!
