[ JH ] What are your goals for this years Olympia?

[ SM ] My best placing at the Olympia was 6th back in 2000, so I would at least want to place in the top 6. I really just want it to be my best showing ever. I feel that I am coming in at my best so anything can happen.

[ JH ] You're one of the very few Moms in the Olympia this year, what is your current day like with kids, a husband, cardio, training, diet, routine practice, etc.? Could you lay it out in detail from the minute you get up in the morning until you go to bed?

[ SM ] Here you go:

    6:00 AM

    • Wake up and get Braylee ready for school.

    7:00 AM

    • One hour of cardio, then eat grapefruit.
    • Wake Chesney and get her ready for school (depending on the day; she only goes to school three days a week).
    • Take Chesney to school or to my mom's house (depending on the day).

    9:30 AM

    10:30-11:30 AM

    • Practice (depending on the day)
    • Pick up Chesney from my mom or school.
    • Feed Chesney lunch.

    1:00 PM

    • Eat.

    2:15 PM

    • Leave to pick-up Braylee from school.
    • Wait in carpool line for 30-45 minutes.
    • Home and prepare a snack for the girls.
    • Help Braylee with homework.
    • Deal with the neighborhood girls that come and play. Do my workouts.

    4:00 PM

    • Eat.

    5:00 PM

    • Feed dogs.

    6:00 PM

    • Feed girls.

    7:00 PM

    • Bathe girls.

    7:30 PM

    • Eat.

    8:00 PM

    • Chesney to bed, then cardio for me.

    9:00 PM

    • Braylee to bed.

Then I go to bed after I do whatever else that needs to be done to finish out the day.

**Somewhere amidst all of the running around I also grocery shop, clean the house, answer emails, pay bills, and fit in clients when I can.

[ JH ] What advice do you give other moms about balancing their life and having goals to reach?

[ SM ] You have to be careful what you take on. There are things that do get neglected if you don't pay attention and then you have to play catch up. Set realistic small goals at first and work your way up. Enlist help from friends and family. I don't know what I would do without my mom. She helps out a lot!

[ JH ] Can you tell us about your in-season diet for a show like the Olympia?

[ SM ] There's not much to tell. My body loves food and likes to store it in all the wrong places. So, when I diet I don't get a lot of it (food). I start out eating about six meals a day and then I go down to five meals. It really depends on how my body is responding. Each contest diet has been different. My carbs are very low. My diet basically consists of chicken, fish and veggies for 16 weeks! Yeah.

[ JH ] Can you tell us what your off-season diet will be like when the Olympia is over?

[ SM ] I will eat about six meals a day. I'll continue to eat low carb/ high protein and veggies. I'll start using shakes again. The best part is that I'll get back my one cheat meal each week!

[ JH ] You have done great fitness routines in previous shows. You have even called yourself a MILF! I think you are, by the way! What is up your sleeve for this year's Olympia routine?

[ SM ] Thank you for that compliment. That means a lot coming from you. Actually, I was told not to change my routine, so the MILF is back. I have added some new tricks and spiced it up a bit. I like it and I have a great time doing it. I hope the fans and judges like it too.

[ JH ] What are you Olympia predictions for this year's Fitness O since the GREAT Jen hendershott is not competing?

[ SM ] Well, since the Great 'Jenny H' is not in the 'O', I think it's wide open. It's very similar to when Adela was out of the Fitness International. We always have the top three favorites, but I think anything can happen at any given show. I don't ever take anything for granted.

[ JH ] I know age is just a number, but what do you think we should expect from you in terms of competing long term. Do you think you will be competing in the Fitness International in 2010?

[ SM ] That's a good question. My life is like the game Bonkers (those of you old enough may remember this game). "It's never the same game twice". I don't know what I am doing hour by hour let alone week by week. So I just take it one show at a time. My two girls are the center of my life. They come first, so it's always a wait and see what's going on situation, and then we decide.

[ JH ] I recently said in an interview that I felt the most inspiring people to me are moms like you! Who inspires you to compete and do all this, and why?

[ SM ] That's a tough question. My mom inspires me to be the best mom and person that I can be. She's the best. But, I think I get inspired by the athlete in me. I love competition and pushing myself to the limit. I like to see how far I can go and what I can accomplish.

The women who write to me and tell me how I motivate them inspire me to keep going. My girls inspire me because I want them to live healthy, athletic lives. They will learn from my example. So I guess that I'm inspired by my family, friends and fans.

[ JH ] You work very closely with your husband. Can you tell us who he is and what it is that the two of you do for a living?

[ SM ] My husband is Tres Bennett. He is the NPC chairman of South Carolina. He has been a nationally ranked bodybuilder for over 20 years. He is the promoter of many local NPC shows and the NPC Jr. USA. Tres also does diets and trains several bodybuilding, fitness, figure, and bikini girls at all levels. He is my soul mate and I love him with all my heart.

[ JH ] What supplements do you currently take for your contest preparation?

[ JH ] Can you answer the following questions with quick and simple answers?

What do you think the key is to being healthy?

[ SM ] I think the key to being healthy is eating a balanced diet of nutritious food, exercising, and being happy.

[ JH ] What is the best breakfast meal?

[ JH ] What is the key to confidence?

[ SM ] The key to confidence is knowing that you are doing the right thing for the right reasons.

[ JH ] When are you the most proud?

[ SM ] I'm most proud when my little girls accomplish something that makes them proud.

[ JH ] What is your favorite exercise and how do you do it?

[ SM ] Walking lunges: walking down my street.

[ JH ] Is there anything else you would like to add or anyone you would like to thank?

[ SM ] Yes, I would like to thank my husband for getting me in shape all these years. I would also like to thank my managers, JM and Debbie Manion. JM and Debbie have managed me since I turned pro in 1999. They have been a great source of support in helping me obtain work within the industry and guiding me in the right direction on what shows to do. They are like family.

I would also like to thank my mom for all her help. Without her I would not have the best babysitter in the world! I would like to thank my girls for putting up with me when I am preparing for a show. They are the 'Beautiful Wings' that help me fly.
