[ Q ] How did the gym start and why did you decide to begin (or work within) the gym business?
Dan and Kim opened The Press Gym in 2000. We have been in the health club business for over 20 years. We're both personal trainers as well as gym owners.
We opened the gym as a business that we could own and run together and something that we both had a passion for.

[ Q ] Can you give us a description on what went into opening your awesome establishment?
We did a major remodel on the space we currently occupy. We added a lot of lights and windows to really open up and brighten the gym.

[ Q ] What makes your gym different?
Our gym is one of the last "old school" gyms left in Minnesota. As the big chain clubs have moved in, they've forced a lot of the small independently owned places out of business.
We offer a training atmosphere that is different from every other place in town. We don't offer daycare, pools or basketball courts. We have a huge selection of free weights and machines as well as great cardio equipment.

[ Q ] What sort of people do you attract into your gym?
Our membership ranges in age from 14 - 80+. We have quite a few powerlifters and bodybuilders who train here, but our average member is the person who just wants to work out in a place that is serious about training.
We get to know all of our members and can offer a friendly, comfortable environment that people look forward to coming to.

[ Q ] What inspires people to train at your facility?
Being around the athletes that we have here raises everybody's ambitions and goals. Training to your full potential is something we try and instill here.
Whether your goal is to compete in a particular sport or event, or just to come in and lose a few pounds, we have a place that allows you to do that without the huge crowds and long waits for equipment and attention.

[ Q ] Do you have any top trainers and why are they so good?
Our trainers are all former or current bodybuilders or powerlifters. Their knowledge of fitness training is extensive as all of them have been doing this for many years.
[ Q ] What special services do you provide?
The Press Gym is a unique place to train. Kim teaches a special class called Butt n' Belly that is a great glutes and abs class. Fawn Friday teaches kettlebell classes.
Inside our building we have the Warriors Cove MMA Studio. They are recognized as one of the top studios in the upper Midwest. We are also the only gym in the country with a tattoo studio inside it. It's called Beloved Studios II.

[ Q ] Who are your most notable members (past and present)?
We have quite a few national level powerlifters as well as professional athletes who train here.
[ Q ] What was the hardest part about operating your gym?
Probably the hours. If you're going to own and operate your own place, you better be prepared to work 70-80 hours a week.
[ Q ] What makes you competitive over the large gym chains?
We offer a friendlier and more authentic atmosphere than any place in town. And it's cheaper.
