Turin: - Latvia has won its first Winter Olympics Medal since the small Baltic country (pop. 2.3 million) left the Soviet orbit. Martins Rubenis mounted the podium at the Torino games to receive his Bronze Medal for the mens' single luge competition on Feb 13.

The Competition:

Rebenis was +.357 off the Gold Medal pace of Italian Armin Zoeggler and edged out American Tony Benshoof to receive a Bronze Medal. The Silver Medalist was Albert Demtschenko of Russia. Canadian Jeff Christie placed fourteenth.

Latvians Should Be Proud:
