Bio/Background

[ Q ] When and why did you become a trainer?
Most children dream of becoming doctors, dentists and therapists but not me. I used to work in a physical therapy office and through my experience there I learned that my true calling was helping people to better themselves and prevent disease and injury.
I was always into health and nutrition. I remember walking into the weight room in high school being so overwhelmed with the atmosphere. All I wanted to do was learn all I could about how the body worked and the fundamentals of a sound nutrition plan.

I became a Personal Trainer when I turned the ripe old age of 18. I will never forget being the youngest trainer in my gym with the highest sales within the first 6 months!

[ Q ] What is your training style? What methods do you use?
My training style is definitely an old school approach. There are no miracle exercises, or training styles. Looking around at any gym floor and you will see many different trainers with all these magical "methods," "I'll have you hop around on the ball for an hour and we can hope you will get results." Not that these magical "methods" do not work, but the end result must be the client has received the results they want. The proof is in the pudding.
I make sure that my clients go by the basics of weight training which is progressive overloading their muscles by doing either 5lbs more, 1 more rep, or 1 more set then their last workout (in proper form of course).
There are no secret methods just correct form, consistency and dedication from the client. I have seen through the years that the clients who are the most determined, the ones who are frustrated with their current progress and really have the willpower and desire to change are usually the most successful.

[ Q ] Do you have examples of success stories from clients using your methods?
Every potential client I sit down with I explain to them what is in store for them in the upcoming months working with me. I thoroughly go though everything I have set up for them, as well as take their measurements and current body fat. I need their full dedication and consistency. I have plenty of success stories:
Jeanine Denzer (Advertising Business Manager, New York, NY)
"Anthony introduced me to a completely different way of training. After just 20 minutes, I used muscles that I hadn't worked out much and I was sore for a few days afterwards (even though I had a trainer prior to Anthony). He listened to me when I told him what my goals were and he's been a great support system in helping me reach them.

He created a custom diet that worked for me. When I found it difficult to stick to a particular part of the diet, he supplemented food so that I would be able to continue to follow it. He taught me how to control what I ate and how much of it, without feeling like I was missing out or depriving myself.
One of the most important aspects of training with Anthony for me has been the emotional support. When I'm feeling weak or just down about myself and I email him, I always receive an email back from him giving me the boost I need. He is always positive and supportive. I know I could not have come this far without that part of his training.
He has now been training me for about 4 months and I have learned more in that time than I thought possible. When we work one on one together, he takes his time with me making sure I understand what we are doing. He pushes me beyond the limits I have always hid behind, opening my eyes to new exercises and new ways to step up my workouts.
I have definitely seen incredible improvement in my physical appearance, as well as my mentality, since I started working with him. I feel better than I have in ages and I owe it all to him."
Michael Pecora (CitiBank Sales Rep, New York, NY)
"Anthony gets results. It's that simple. He works with you to understand your fitness goals and then customizes a workout program to achieve them. His knowledge, guidance, and motivation is amazing. I've used trainers before, but did not get the results that I achieved with Anthony. Personal training is definitely an investment, but time with Anthony is an investment worth making. See for yourself. Good luck."

I remember talking to him for the first time and he was telling me about his diet and training methods, and he asked me to read over his website and read his past client testimonies. I did just that and remember thinking, "Sure his other clients found success with him - but I won't." Not that I was not determined to make big changes, it was more that I thought I had already tried EVERYTHING there was to try without satisfaction.
I thought of every reason why this would not work for me - It could be my age, thinking it was my metabolism slowing down. I thought of excuses like - it could be the SSRI medications I have been taking. I was told by numerous doctors that these meds cause weight gain and it is something that I should accept because the benefits of the meds (for me personally) outweigh the negative side effects of weight gain.
Well I kept an open mind to Anthony's knowledge and confidence that I could succeed. He warned me that the diet is a major KEY with someone who has a lot of excess body fat.

[ Q ] Who are some of your celebrity clients?
To me all of my clients are celebrities. Each one of them is unique and special in their own way. They all manage to brighten up my day and make my life that much worth living! I thank all of my current, past and future clients for having the honor to help you in your endeavor for a healthier you.

[ Q ] Can you please you give me an sample diet and training program you put together for your clients?
I wish I could give you a sample diet and training program, it would make my job really simple! Bottom line there is no "set" program for clients. Every person is different and no two people are alike. If that's true then why have two diets or programs that are the same.
I like to use this analogy, "You can not buy a good suit without having it tailored for you, correct?!" Some people respond better to higher carbs, some to higher fats, every diet or routine must be tailored to the individual or it will not fit right!

[ Q ] What are the most common mistakes a client makes?
The most common mistake a client makes is not sticking with the nutritional plan. Nutrition is the most important aspect when trying to change your body. Your nutritional habits account for 80% of what you see in the mirror. Are you happy with what you see in the mirror, if not you need to work on your nutritional habits.

[ Q ] Do you set your clients up with a full diet and supplement plan?
Absolutely, diet is key in any program. My nutritional plan goes hand in hand with my exercise program and cardio plan. I will set up a supplement plan for my advanced clients only. I feel that supplements are key when you are at the advanced stages.
When you're just starting out its important to build a nutritional "foundation" first. Do not forget that supplements are not magic; if your nutritional habits are in check you do not need supplements.

[ Q ] What supplements do you recommend?

[ Q ] How do you keep your clients motivated?
Client motivation must come from within. If they are coming to me in hopes to change they must be motivated first. I have a favorite saying, "If there's a will there's a way."
If you can feel the change within then let's make it happen! With that being said, everyone has their down days, if that's the case I will repeat to the client their ultimate goal and explain to them that if they get two more reps they will be one step closer to that goal. That's usually enough to get them fired up for more!

[ Q ] Do you train a male client differently to a female?
Actually to be honest I train females much harder then men. Men tend to lose weight and gain muscle much easier without having to be pushed as hard. Females have a higher tolerance of pain than men so it's a lot more fun to make females work hard. Females usually have more trouble zones that they must work at. Women also can not build as much muscle as men so they must work that much harder to get results.

[ Q ] How have your changed your approach to clients over the years of experience?
I have learned to be a chameleon with my clients. Every person is different and some people respond better to certain things. Some clients are more visual, other are more verbal. You must be flexible in your teaching abilities in order to get clients to their goals!

[ Q ] How do you start a client on a new program? Do you do some kind of assessment?
When first meeting with a new client I would sit down with them and have them go over their goals with me. Not just a weight loss goal, I really make the client focus on why they want a certain thing. Then depending on what their goals are I would explain to them my plan of attack.
I usually go over all the finer points like diet issues, cardio and various important factors. Once we are done talking I hand them a medical form to fill out and I will take their measurements as well as their body fat and weight. I log all my client's info into folders much like many doctor offices do. I usually do a "re-assessment" bi-weekly.

I Really Make The Client Focus.

[ Q ] Do you prefer to train male or female clients and why?
I like training both equally. A requirement for me is that the individual is motivated and has that passion to succeed. When the client can feel the results from within it makes my job that much better. I usually feed off that energy and I push the client beyond their current level. A truly dedicated person will thank me at the end of the session for pushing them beyond their limits.

[ Q ] Do you feel just as much like a psychologist as you do a personal trainer?
Ha-ha, yes you have to be able to listen to each person and help them. Most of my clients are focused on results that we do not do much talking, it's down to business during our "hour of power," then afterwards we chat. When we do chat I help clients solve any problem they might have.
