[ Q ] Can you tell me a little about yourself?

Before I became a successful fitness model and an awarded top personal trainer in numerous sports clubs, I was just another emigrant kid. I came to the States to become the next Mixed Martial Arts World Champion, but instead of continuing day long training sessions, I found myself driving a taxi cab and moving people's furniture to make money. Within less than a year, I was no longer a lean athlete; instead, I was an average young adult with extra poundage and low self-esteem.

As a kid, when I was only six, I started practicing martial arts. By the age of sixteen, I was a pro fighter with many victories behind my back. Back then I thought, I can stay in that shape forever, as I knew what I was doing.

A move to a new country, with different food and lifestyle, proved me wrong. After a year of stressful jobs and poor nutrition, I faced a challenge. No matter how early I was waking up to do my training routines, no matter how many miles I jogged, the weight I gained was not decreasing.

I started studying nutrition, and psychology, completed various certifications, and found the last piece of the puzzle to make my sports professionalism complete.

Whether it is a photo shoot, a movie casting, or a new competition, now I know exactly what to do to architect my body at its best. Within a very short time, I can decrease my body fat level from 6% to under 4%, as I stay lean all year round.

My new formulation is based on a natural approach that involves juggling nutrition and exercise, while having emotional support that turns failure into success. I have done it myself and for my clients on many occasions in the last few years, and I'm able to do it over and over again.

[ Q ] Why did you become a trainer?

Because fitness is my passion, it's always been. Being in great health not only makes you look good, it also makes you feel great, live longer, be more confident, more productive, and overall a happier person. I can go on and on and on.

Fitness Is My Passion, It Always Has Been.

I discovered the formula of success in fitness through a lot of trial frustration and error. Now that I've mastered it, it's my passion to help other people. Why not? I love it. What else do you need? Ha-Ha!

[ Q ] Does having a background of a martial artist help?

Definitely! My MMA background helps a lot. Discipline is the key to success. I've learned that on the National team and now I can apply that discipline to any aspect of my life, whether it's business, sport or relationships.

[ Q ] What is your training style? What methods do you use?

I'm a very dynamic athlete. I do a lot of compound movements, engaging several muscle groups in one exercise. I also change it all the time. One week I can train strictly like a bodybuilder, another week gymnastics exercises only, week after that, wrestling and kickboxing and so on. My body always wanders: "What the heck goes on?" That's why I never hit a plateau and always stay lean.

[ Q ] Do you have examples of success stories from clients using your methods?

Yes. I've helped many people to lose weight, gain muscle, rehab from injuries and so on. I happened to learn all these areas of fitness by first-hand experience, so now I'm very comfortable dealing even with the hardest issues. There is a lot more to learn and I'm always open to discover something new and listen; learn from people with different experiences and backgrounds.

[ Q ] What programs (diet, nutrition, and supplementation) did you use on those particular clients?

Nutrition is 80% of the result. If you don't eat right it's almost impossible to get lean. There is only a very small percentage of people who can eat in McDonald's and stay ripped - they are called pure ectomorphs.

I calculate calories for all my clients and break them down to macronutrients, make easy to follow adjustable menus for people. As they learn more and become more aware of how their body reacts, my clients gradually make the transition to eyeballing their meals.

You have to learn to calculate and measure food until you can actually get a good sense of how to eat right. I personally don't count my calories anymore and I'm able to reach under 4 percent of body fat. But I started from measuring and weighing food, religiously.

[ Q ] What are the most common mistakes newbie's make?

The most common mistake, in my opinion... it's when people go for everything or nothing. They get motivated, excited, then go on the diet, burn themselves at the gym, get frustrated and eventually give up. Because they can't stay on extreme levels for a long time, not physically, not mentally. The key is balance. It's when you do it right, as opposed to doing it too much or not enough, wrong way.

[ Q ] What is your approach to nutrition and supplementation? Do you set your clients up with a full diet plan?

I recommend basic supplements for my clients. Such as multi-vitamins, flax/ fish oil. That's insurance policy. If your body doesn't get enough from food, it makes it up by taking from basic supplements. I do set my clients up with menu plans, which we adjust together according to their food preferences.

[ Q ] How do you keep your clients motivated?

Oh. Motivation is my strongest part. I'm extremely driven person, and I like to push others too. I read a bunch of books on mind power and motivation. I learn from people who faced the hardest challenges and still made themselves very successful.

When you hear or read what people have done with their lives... are you kidding me? Most people's problems and challenges are nothing in comparison to what self-made successes have been through. Bringing life examples and stories to my clients always helps me to motivate them. I'm here to serve a purpose. If I meet a miserable feeling person on the street, I'll stop and motivate them too.

[ Q ] What is the average length of a client?

You know, I move from place to place. I moved to LA only 3 month ago. My clients usually stay with me for a long time, because I always take training to the next level. Of course at some point people continue on their own. Usually when they've learned enough and feel comfortable to go on by themselves. I would say average length is 6 months.

[ Q ] How have your changed your approach to clients over the years of experience?

As I've been growing and getting more experienced I've learned how to maximize results. I make everything clear to my clients, putting nutrition, mind programming and activity level together right in the beginning. Basically I map everything out for them.

[ Q ] Who are your working with currently and in the future that people may have heard of?

I'm new to LA, so people are still getting to know me. I'll be working with very well known celebrities in the near future. I can't disclose names, I'm sorry. May be later as we are still getting used to working together.

[ Q ] How do you start a client on a new program? Do you do some kind of assessment?

Always. I do biomechanics assessment. Correct forms. I take body composition, define body fat and endurance level. I'm very strict on that. I base every program specifically on the individual's physical condition and goals.

[ Q ] Do you prefer to train male or female clients and why?

No preference to me, LOL! A client to me is just a client. I look at it professionally.

Outside of that though, I do like the girls. Ha-ha!

[ Q ] Do you feel just as much like a psychologist as you do a personal trainer?

I actually feel more like a psychologist than a personal trainer. If you don't pay enough attention to psychology of your brain, if you don't learn how to set goals or control your emotions and follow through, no matter what you have and what you do, you will never feel fulfilled and happy.
