This was my fourth and final bodybuilding competition and I was starting from the heaviest I'd ever been in my life. At 218 pounds I couldn't tie my shoes without turning purple!
I combined carb cycling with HIIT, heavy lifting and single-minded determination.
My trainer put me on a low fat, low carb, high protein diet with a high fat carb-up every 7th day. My daily carbs were only to be consumed between 7:00 AM and 3:00 PM. As time went on, my daily carb allowance dropped incrementally.
Training was very heavy and high volume: weights five days a week and cardio seven days a week.
I'm not gonna lie and tell you it was a breeze because like they say: if it were easy, then everyone would do it. But thanks to a close network of friends I've made here on the Bodybuilding.com forums, I pushed myself further and harder than most people half my age would. Competitive bodybuilding will offer you a physical and mental challenge unlike any other activity but even if competition isn't your interest, following a prep diet and training plan will definitely shed that stubborn fat!
