 Why I Got Started
I first got started at the beginning of the end of a toxic 17-year marriage. As all crumbled I got more into my workout. First I started running everyday and eating only protein such as grilled chicken because I was so stressed and nervous all the time coping with the different issues and aspects of the end of my marriage that I couldn't eat much.
The weight/body fat started to come off. I'd lost about 35 pounds within 4 months. Things started to turn and I began training for a goal once I met my trainer, Clif. My way of thinking about myself also started to shift from "can't" or "not-good-enough" to "I can" and "I am good enough."

 How I Did It
At first, when dealing with my situation at hand, I started coping with stress by running 3-4 miles on the treadmill everyday and eating only protein, such as grilled chicken. I lost weight very quickly.
Then, after meeting my trainer, Clif Johnson, I began taking 45-minute conditioning classes with him and with his encouragement, I began my weight training and conditioning program 3 times per week and the cardio in between with my goal being competing in bodybuilding or figure at some point.

It's been about 3-4 years since and in May 2009 I finally competed in my first figure comp. This Fall we plan on training for my first Women's Bodybuilding competition.

 Suggestions For Others
Be true to yourself. Also, I was given a very good piece of advice that has impacted me greatly that I would give to others, especially those living in toxic relationships, "Respect everyone. Fear no one." Fear is your worst enemy. So don't believe the hype. Live a day at a time.
