Why I Got Started
When I was little, I was known as the "fat-girl" from time to time. Growing up, my self esteem was low and I was so sad.
I longed to fit in and be popular in school, but I was the outcast. I became obsessed with my body and how poorly I felt about it. Over the years, I tried every fad diet there is. I became "skinny-fat" and thought that was what life was all about.
That lifestyle never lasted for long and I would gain the weight back and be unhappier than ever. I was at my wits end when at the age of 39 I decided to try one more time. My motivation at the time was a vacation with friends that I had coming up. I wanted to look better. Little did I know that once I started, it would become more about "feeling" better than looking better.
How I Did It
Weight training has truly transformed my body and continues to do so. I am amazed at the difference that adding weight training to my life has made.
My body is not just lean, but sculpted. I have 6-pack abs! I believe it is vital for women who want to lose weight and get fit to incorporate weights into their lifestyle. Before I was educated by my trainer, I was under the impression that weight lifting would make me look masculine. I was SO wrong!
The keys to becoming successful are to stop making excuses and to believe in yourself. Once you start to see your hard work paying off, you will be addicted.
Fitness is the best feeling in the world. It not only changes you physically, but mentally as well. That is priceless. You owe it to yourself. You can do it.
I started in January of 2007 because I wanted to look better for a vacation in May. I hired a trainer and he taught me that it was not just about working out, but about eating clean. Within 5 months I had reached my goal of losing 25 pounds and gaining toned muscle.
I became addicted and the now I strive to be better each day. It has been 3 years since I started and I have never looked back. I look forward to learning more about nutrition and weight lifting as each step I take transforms my body more. I have never felt better, stronger or happier.

Tips For Others
The advice I would give someone who is struggling to stay motivated is to take baby steps. Sometimes when we have a large goal, it can seem so overwhelming that we just give up. If you set small goals for yourself, you will start to see the results and I guarantee that will be all the motivation you need to continue.
Before you know it, you will have reached that large goal. Believe in yourself.
