 Why I Got Started
Back in February 2007 I weighed more than 200 pounds; I was fat, unhealthy and unhappy. I made the decision to get back in shape by the time I turned 40. 11 months later I accomplished my goal and had lost over 50 pounds.

 How I Did It
I mainly did it with a diet low in carbs, high in protein and lots of cardio. I always hated running, but after seeing some results I actually started to enjoy it and still do today. Once I lost most of the fat and started to see some muscle definition I decided to start weight training again after taking nearly 8 years off.

 Training
My training during my weight loss was mainly cardio. I did a session right away in the morning on an empty stomach and then, if time allowed, I would run again in the evening. My running sessions were usually 3-5 miles in length. I would always try to get to the 5k mark and then go from there. On weekends I would sometimes have longer runs of 8-10 miles and these I would do outdoors.
I usually do 5 sets per exercise and keep the rep range between 5-10. My current cardio schedule is 5 days per week of low intensity cardio early in the morning on an empty stomach on the treadmill at 5-5.7 mph for 45-50 minutes.
 Suggestions For Others
Never give up! You'll have good and bad days with weight loss, but staying consistent was always the key for me. I set my goal and was driven and determined to reach it. There were many days that I felt like giving up, but that was never an option. A person has to fight through it and keep pushing forward.
