There were a couple of reasons why I got started. I looked in the mirror and was repulsed by what I saw. How could I, working in the health care field and giving out health advice, be taken seriously when I was in worse shape than my patients? My other reason for wanting a change was that I had always told myself that I was going to compete in a bodybuilding competition before I turned 40, and the date was rapidly approaching.
It was the 2006 Emerald Cup in Washington when it all changed for me. I met Bob Cicherillo at the Bodybuilding.com booth. He took extra time to answer my questions and encouraged me to join BodySpace. From there, my eyes were opened to a whole world of like-minded individuals. From the articles, to the forum, to the helpful staff, to the store, and most importantly from the people I've met on here, I have learned volumes.
Eventually I found my perfect trainer, who has guided me to steady improvements, Tom Fuller and I also have the wonderful opportunity of being an online Rep for Universal Nutrition.

Don't use age as an excuse. I'm in my 40's and in better shape than my 20's. If you fall off the wagon, get right back up, dust yourself off, and get back into the gym! There's always an opportunity for improvement around every corner.
