An Interview With MMA Champion Ron Waterman.

Check out this awesome interview with the #1 Super Heavyweight fighter in the world, Ron Waterman. Find out how he trains, what he eats, what supplements he takes and more...
[ Q ] Ron, thanks for taking the time out of your schedule to do this interview. Tell us how did you get the nickname 'H20Man'?

Well my last name is Waterman, get it? My wife actually came up with the idea.

[ Q ] When did you get started into mixed martial arts & why?

I was a college wrestler, and when Dan Sevrin, Mark Colman and many other wrestlers started doing well in the UFC, I knew I could also be successful, and make a little money.

[ Q ] What does a sample training week look like for the 'H20Man'?

I train with my wife at 5 A.M. five days a week. We do an intense hour of cardio "Boot Camp" training class. This is followed by 1 ½ of weight training. We are on a 5-day split routine.

I then train for 1-2 hours on the mat. Grappling, Wrestling, and Boxing. When I am on the road with Team Impact, I also get to tear phone books in half, lift telephone poles over my head and snap baseball bats in half for a little bonus workout... Ha!

[ Q ] If you could only do one exercise, what would it be and why?

Wow, that's a tough question. One exercise, Probably a power clean because it works so many body parts at once.

Cardio is by far the most important part of MMA. If your not in good condition you won't last long.

So an all around conditioning class like the one I do at 5 A.M. is a great all around training class.

[ Q ] What does your weekly diet consist of?

I am on a high protein diet, 1-2 grams per pound of body weight. I try to get 6 meals in every day, with 4 protein shakes mixed in. I eat very clean and take in most of my carbs in the morning and afternoon.

How Much Protein Do You Consume?

    1 Gram x Bodyweight / Day
    1.5 Grams x Bodyweight / Day
    2 Grams x Bodyweight / Day
    Over 2.5 x Bodyweight / Day

[ Q ] What supplements have gave you the best gains?

Of course, the only supplements I use are ISS. I am a huge fan ProM3 Protein. 50 grams of protein and only 3 carbs. The new Micellar Matrix is also incredible for loading nighttime Protein. ZMA has helped me as well as L-Glutamine and Creatine. I'm also impressed with the new Satur8.

[ Q ] What are your current stats?

I am currently ranked the #1 Super Heavyweight fighter in the world.

I'm tipping the scales at 278lbs at 6'2. I'm as lean as I have ever been and feel like I'm in the best shape of my life.

[ Q ] What is Team Impact & when did you start with them?

Team Impact is a group of World Class Athletes who travel the world sharing a message of hope and inspiration. We use feats of strength to gather peoples attention then share our faith in Jesus Christ.

We will do over 1,000 school assemblies this year, talking about the effects of drugs and alcohol, making good choices, setting your goals high, and not giving in to the peer pressure of our society.

[ Q ] Is the WWE as fake as it looks on TV?

Fake is not a good word, what happens in the ring often hurts very bad.

"The athletes are very good at what they do, but yes as you know the matches are predetermined."

It's sports entertainment we have to take it for that. Unfortunately today it's become a little trashy and not something I want my children to watch.

[ Q ] How would WWE competitors do against PRIDE competitors?

I can think of a couple that would do ok, but most that you would think are tough are far from it. Some of the college wrestlers like Angle, and Lesnar would be good with a little training.

[ Q ] What was you most memorable fight and why?

My last Pride win over Kevin Randleman was a good one. It's hard to fight a friend, Kevin is a tough competitor and it was a good win for me.

Ron won in 7:40 of the first round against Kevin Randelman. After an all out brawl H2O ended up submitting Randelman in a Keylock.

[ Q ] What has been your biggest life accomplishment?

Accepting Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior at the age of 32. I was headed fast in the wrong direction. My wife and I asked Christ into our lives 7 years ago and it has been unreal. We have an awesome God. My family has been so blessed and we have so much to be grateful for.

[ Q ] Anything else you would like to share with

You can keep up with me and what's going on in my life at I would like to thank ISS research for all they have done for me the last 4 years. Without the incredible supplements they offer I could never keep up. God Bless, Ron
