[ Q ] How did you get started in bodybuilding? What was it about the sport that drew you in?
    dot

[ A ] Well my heart has always been into sports especially enjoying track and field in school. I did a bit of weight training just for personal reasons at this point in my life but nothing too serious.

It was kind of funny at my ten year reunion - a good friend Paul brought up the fact that I announced to everyone in grade six that I was going to be in a magazine because I would be the "Bestest muscle female"... Grade six!!!

Later in life it was, as a lot of you know, a bad relationship and an eating disorder that drew me into the gym again nine years ago and a gentleman to who I am with today that helped me find the passion I once had.

It was a sport I knew I needed to push myself both physically and mentally and if I could accomplish it I would be on the right track again with myself personally and with acceptance... so it is truly more to me than just a sport.

[ Q ] You've been competing since 2000, and you received your IFBB pro card at the Canadian Nationals 7 years later. How did you improve your physique in that time, and was there a catalyst/person who encouraged you to keep competing throughout that time?
    dot

[ A ] I have always just continued to train as hard as I could not really favoring any certain body parts.

My legs have always come in great shape but I know now that I have to focus on bringing the inner and outer quads to more sweep and overall mass. I don't think there have been any significant changes to my physique just overall fullness and not such a depleted look.

Wow! For people who have encouraged me - it is insane the amazing support group I have. Dave Palumbo my trainer from Species Nutrition, my family and friends, are all incredible! I also receive anywhere from 80-120 emails a day of encouragement and inspiration stories from people who have been following me in the sport, and believe me this is worth more than any trophy!

[ Q ] Your early resume speaks volumes about your success: you placed first in 2000 at the Alberta Muscle Beach Classic as a lightweight, first as a middleweight in the 2002 Alberta Bodybuilding Provincials, and then again at both the 2003 and 2004 Canadian Bodybuilding Championships.

But I have to ask, do you feel that, as a Canadian bodybuilder, you get the same opportunities, endorsements, attention from the media, etc. as your American counterparts?
    dot

[ A ] The CBBF and the ABBA are amazing. The level of respect and dedication they have for their athletes is truly incredible. It is like a little family. This is one thing I really thought I would miss going into the IFBB. But I was wrong.

Someone asked me last year what my greatest memory would be that I will take from the Olympia after qualifying just weeks before at my pro debut. My answer was the competitors. An incredible bunch of people with so much heart and drive that it reminds you - being around them - why you truly love the sport.

The media attention is definitely on a larger scale at the IFBB. We were fortunate enough to have Steve Wennerstrom there to cover the Canadian athletes since my first show.

I also think that the field for endorsements and opportunities are there for any athlete no matter where you are from, but more on what you have to offer on a promotional and or a marketable scale.

    dot
[ Q ] Most recently in terms of competitions, you placed 1st at the 2007 Atlantic City pro show, 1st at the 2008 Tampa Bay Pro, and 2nd at the Europa Pro show. Did you ever think/know that you would reach this level of success? Do you ever just take a step back to take it all in?
    dot

[ A ] To me success lies in the heart. Did I think I would make it this far? I have always had an open mind where winning was not my number one priority but succeeding personally was the true winning factor.

I never once thought it was impossible for me to make it to the Olympia but also never pictured myself standing beside the best in the world! So it is really a question with mixed feelings.

I always new I had what it takes to be the best I can be with full dedication and a positive attitude, but thinking back on the amazing success I have had so far as one of the smaller competitors, it is incredible and I have to remind myself how blessed I have been over the years to be given the opportunity to travel on this journey set before me.

    dot
[ Q ] Last year, you placed 8th at the Ms. Olympia contest. Can we expect to see you again this year in Las Vegas? What are your predictions for the contest in terms of the package you'll bring?
    dot

[ A ] Oh you bet! I will be there! Who would miss the Olympia if given the honor to be there, not me! Compared to last year I would like to come in about the same condition for hardness but will focus on being a little fuller on stage. Overall I can promise you I will come in the best shape I possibly can.

As I mentioned before my legs need to improve but unfortunately I will not have the time to do it over the next few weeks leading up to the "O" but will definitely bring you those improvements next year!

    dot
[ Q ] How have you improved since last year? Has your training/supplement/diet changed much in that time?
    dot

[ A ] I was on a protein/ carb diet for the past seven years but changed things up this year. I was taken under the wing and sponsored by Dave Polumbo.

It was so easy I felt guilty that I was cheating everyday because I enjoyed the diet. I know it sounds crazy but it is true! I also used the Species Nutrition product line this year for the first time and can say I was impressed by the energy levels I had right up to show time. Being on Protein/Fat days and Protein/fiber days was really a change for me but overall the outcome was great.

    dot
[ Q ] Do you have any words of advice/inspiration for young, up and coming bodybuilders, or just people looking for a little bit more motivation?
    dot

[ A ] It's all about heart. If you truly want something - anything bad enough - you must believe in yourself and know that failure will just fuel fire to accomplish your dreams. The only time you will ever experience true failure is if you never try!

Never let your memories become greater than your dreams and focus on where you want to be, not where you are.

To the world you are just one person... but to that one person you may be the world as someone will always believe in you, but you must believe in yourself first.
