Why I Got Started

The main reason I got started was because I was so tired of being the fat kid. I was always teased for my weight. I had to use my weight as a joke, kind of like many overweight comedians do.

One day I decided to change my lifestyle and work out. This was also in part due to watching "Pumping Iron", that movie is amazing. Working out became fun. I was amazed at my progress.

Each month I got stronger and lost more and more weight. Not only did it do wonders in the physical sense, but it also helped mentally, where I was able to relieve a lot of stress and anger built up inside over the years.

How I Did It

At first, when I was 17 years old, I tried WeightWatchers. That helped a lot. I took off about 20 pounds in a month. After that I decided to put on some muscle mass.

I stumbled on to Bodybuilding.com and began soaking all the articles up like a sponge. I would do 4 months of bulking. I'd increase my calories to 3,500 total, 40% protein, 40% carbs and 20% fats.

Then I would spend 4 months cutting. Eating 2,000 calories total this time. With 60% protein, 20% carbs and 20% fats. The last 2 months I would maintain it by usually eating the same amounts, sometime more, as the cutting phase.

I work out five days a week. Monday through Thursday I do weight lifting. I do one body part per day. Moreover, I do 30-40 minutes of HIIT cardio five days a week. This style of cardio has shown me the most results and is a great way to shed pounds.

Suggestions For Others

My advice for others would be to never give up on yourself. The body is an amazing gift and if you put your mind to it, it can do anything. Moreover, don't let people put you down, never listen to the negatives and always try to think positive.

Remember this is a lifestyle change. Keep your body and mind clear. Work hard, dedicate yourself to what you have set out to achieve. The possibilities are endless!
