Aphrodisiac Foods - Reality Or Myth?
Hey Casanova, I know it is hard to come up with ideas of meals to cook for your special lady. Especially if you are trying to make it a romantic evening. You can easily take her out to a fancy restaurant (if you can't afford to take her out - you shouldn't in the first place) - But if you would rather relax at your home or her home and cook for her. Here are some great foods and beverages alleged to have aphrodisiac qualities that result in erotic effects.
Asparagus
Everything about asparagus screams "aphrodisiac" - Women tend to enjoy them because of the phallic shape of its stalk to its tender taste. It's best to boil or steam these little guys.
White asparagus is worth the search. Although, hard to find and more expensive than the green variety. Steam or saute them - then dip in Balsamic Vinegar and feed your lover.
Avocado
Despite the avocado's similarity, when halved, to female genitalia, the Aztecs called the avocado tree "Ahuacuatl" which translated means "testicle tree," believing this fruit, which hangs in pairs, to resemble male genitalia.
A heavenly fruit, avocado is rich in vitamin E and offers a creamy, tantalizing texture. Add them to a very simple, fresh and natural salad for a great way to start the love feast.
Bananas
I believe women also enjoy them for the shape. It's certainly in part responsible for its popularity as an aphrodisiac.
But from a nutrition standpoint, they offer a ample source of potassium and B-complex vitamins, both vital elements in sex hormone production. I like them flambeed and topped with nuts with a scoop of ice cream.
Chocolate
Chocolate contains natural ingredients, which cause the brain to release serotonin, the hormone responsible for feelings of relaxation and pleasure. Chocolates with a higher quantity of cocoa are a more effective aphrodisiac; pick dark chocolates over its lighter cousins to maximize this desired effect.
The fact that chocolate is high in magnesium, and boasts more antioxidant properties than red wine, is a good excuse to indulge in a small amount of both during a romantic dinner with your women. - a good tip is to make sure she eats more than you... no need for you to get more of the calories!
Ginger
Ginger root is a circulatory system stimulant that adds zesty flavor to any meal. Because ginger increases circulation, it improves sensitivity to your body's erogenous zones. It also can be a light, enticing way to complete a romantic dinner while simultaneously improving your post-meal breath.
Honey
Everything about honey is screaming aphrodisiac, from its deep and sticky consistency and its golden appearance to its savory, luscious scent and its absurdly syrupy taste.
Add honey to homemade salad dressings or desserts, such as baked apples, ice cream parfaits, or Peanut Butter Protein Balls. Perfect to share with your little "honey-bunny."
Fruits
Many fresh fruits are as sensual as they are nutritious. Bursting with fiber and antioxidants, and thought to be imbued with aphrodisiac properties. A great way to get her Ripe-N-Ready is to prepare a chocolate fondue with a variety of luscious fruits.

Oysters
It so happens these favorites are full of zinc. Zinc controls progesterone levels, which have a positive effect on the libido. Zinc deficiency can cause impotence in men, so any food rich in zinc is considered an aphrodisiac in that respect, and oysters happen to be chock-full with the mineral. Serve oysters "au naturel," on crushed ice with fresh lemon juice or top with caviar.
Celery
I know what your saying... Celery? But they contain androsterone, which is a hormone naturally produced in males that stimulates sexual arousal in females. Who knew? Prepared stuffed with fat free cream cheese can be an unexpected appetizer for summertime picnic.
Nuts
A variety of nuts have dubious aphrodisiac properties, many of which have been used in "love potions and serums" for hundreds of years. The Romans used walnuts for fertility and pine nuts have been adopted for similar purposes for thousands of years through the Mediterranean and the East.
Cola nuts are also considered an aphrodisiac in Madagascar, probably because of their high caffeine content, which obviously can give you a little added boost.
Add Spices!
Chili, curry and all those sweat inducing foods are believed to have aphrodisiacal effects because they increase your heart rate and may cause us to perspire. Much like sex would in a hot and sizzling way.

Conclusion
We all know that the ingredients for a lifetime of wonderful health/sex include a variety of fresh, wholesome fruits and vegetables, and lean proteins. They all provide beneficial nutrients that keep organs in peak condition and energy at maximum performance, both of which are essential for the quality of lovemaking.

Some foods arouse, others can impair sexual function. Fried foods and rich cream sauces can leave us feeling more "sluggish" than sexy. Excessive sugar, salt, saturated fats and highly processed foods are linked to frigidity, difficulty reaching orgasm and lack of interest in having sex.
Of course preparing romantic dinners without these foods will help revive and preserve sexual vitality and enhance overall health. Because a healthy body is a horny body!

Red Wine can also relaxes the body and lowers inhibition. In other words, alcohol gives you "liquid courage" doing things you normally wouldn't do in a sobered state. Tuna should never ever make it to the dinner table, unless it is Ahi Tuna. - just the smell alone causes me to lose any kind of sexual arousal.
Take your time to savor each meal. Nutritious foods fuel our sexual energy, but it is the art of eating that can be truly "erotic." A prepared meal served in the proper ambience can precipitate a night of passion.
