An Interview With Ms. Olympia competitor, Lisa Aukland
    dot

With her fourth attempt at wresting the Olympia title three weeks away, the ever-popular Lisa Aukland is determined to bring her best possible shape, which means her competition better bring their respective A Games if they hope to edge her out of the top six, a place she has called home since she began her ascent in 2004.

Since turning pro with her overall win at the 2001 North American Championships, Lisa has steadily inched her way towards the pinnacle of women's bodybuilding as shown by her gradual climb towards the number one spot (6th in '04, 5th in '06 and 4th in '07), the Ms. Olympia winner's title.

As intelligent as she is athletic (she also has a Doctorate in Pharmacy), Lisa has methodically planned her training and nutrition with the help of trainer Mike Davies and is always a sure bet to impress the fans and judges alike with thick muscle development crafted, in part, through years of heavy lifting (Lisa is also one of the strongest female bodybuilders around with a 400 pound squat and 410 pound deadlift to her credit).

[ Q ] What can the fans expect to see from Lisa Aukland come the 2008 Ms. Olympia?
    dot

[ A ] This will be my fourth trip to the Olympia so there is a certain comfort factor. I feel relaxed, confident, and ready to have some fun on stage. Life is too short to not have fun and honestly enjoy the fruits of your labors. And I cannot wait to have some fruit- literally!

    dot
[ Q ] What physical improvements - if any - are you expecting to have made?
    dot

[ A ] The best part of getting ready for a show is peeling away layers to see what you have accomplished after months of training. I have worked hard on my core and on my back. From what I can tell I believe my efforts have paid off.

[ Q ] Have you done anything differently to prepare for this show, training and/or nutrition-wise?
    dot

[ A ] I feel I have a system that works for me so I take the attitude "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." Why change a winning formula. I have been steadily improving.

    dot
[ Q ] What has been your training and nutrition approach this time around?
    dot

[ A ] My approach is the same - variety all the way around. No two workouts are ever alike, thanks to Mike Davies' creativity. He has been training me since I turned Professional in 2001, and his training really works for me. He also does my nutrition, which also includes a variety of foods. No starvation dieting here. He gives a lot of food on the diet but then works you hard!

[ Q ] Do you have any predictions in terms of where you will place?
    dot

[ A ] I never try to place myself before a show. I bring the best possible "me" and let the chips fall where they might. That said, everyone better bring their "A" game!

    dot
[ Q ] What motivates you to continue improving as a bodybuilder?
    dot

[ A ] It's just in my nature to strive for perfection both physically and intellectually. At times I feel it is a curse! I was always the student who wanted straight "A's" and would settle for nothing less. I'm a hard worker but at the same time I truly enjoy the "work." The effort is gratifying in many ways.

[ Q ] What is the hardest aspect when preparing for a contest as big as the Ms. Olympia?
    dot

[ A ] Honestly, I prepare for the Olympia just like any other show. I strive for my "A" game at each show. The only difference here is packing for so many days and events while in Las Vegas.

    dot
[ Q ] How do you deal with the pressure associated with training and dieting for a major contest?
    dot

[ A ] I have a wonderful circle of friends both in and out of the industry who keep me focused. They are also skilled at getting me to lighten up when I get too serious or too stressed. My training partner, Michael Rosellini, is my ROCK. He got me through a very tough year personally.

[ Q ] What does the Ms. Olympia contest represent, to you?
    dot

[ A ] The Ms. Olympia contest is a competition of winners. It is the Super Bowl of the bodybuilding world. To be Ms. Olympia you have to be ready to represent the sport both physically and ethically. That is something I would take very seriously.

    dot
[ Q ] What will be your bodybuilding plans following this year's Ms. Olympia?
    dot

[ A ] First, a party Las Vegas-style with my friends. Ha-Ha! Seriously though, I will be promoting my first NPC show next summer in Maryland so the planning will begin immediately after the Olympia. Tracey Greenwood, IFBB Fitness Pro, will be my co-promoter.
