 Why I Got Started

On December 10, 2007, my life changed dramatically. I was involved in a car wreck. The truck I was driving was struck by a tanker truck. I was ejected from my vehicle. I suffered a broken collar bone, broken arm, five broken ribs, a lacerated kidney, a broken shoulder, along with scrapes and bruises all over my body.
I was in the hospital for ten days. I underwent two surgeries to repair my arm and collar bone. They had to put metal plates in both. I also received two pints of blood. I was released from the hospital the week of Christmas.

When I came home from the hospital I became really depressed; I had never been so depressed in all of my life. I had two small children at the age of seven months and two years to care for and could not even care for myself. My husband and my family had to do everything for me.
When my husband had to go back to work my mother pretty much lived with us to care for me and the kids. I had to have someone with me at all time. I could not even go to the bathroom by myself. It took just about a year for me to recover. I was off work for three months. After I went to work I underwent three months of physical therapy.
About a year after my wreck it was like a light switch had gone off in my head. I was the biggest I had been in my life. I hated the way I looked and the way my clothes fit. I had no energy and was always run-down. I was always active in high school and college. After having two kids two years apart I had let myself go.
 How I Did It

I joined a local gym. I started going to a fitness class three days per week and even joined a zumba class. I also started training for the pump and run at the Arnold expo. I lifted weights at the gym five to six days per week and tried to run at least 3-to-5 miles a day.
I have started going to the gym on my lunch break because I am so busy when I get off work with the kids schedule. I run right after work or in the evenings. I have been running in a lot of local 5k races. I love to run and lift weights. People might think that I am wired different because I get so much enjoyment from this. I love to pull back my hair and work up a sweat.
My diet has also changed. I try to eat clean the best I can. And it is funny about a year ago I did not know what this was. I try to eat every 3 hours. I eat a combination of foods that are high in protein mixed with complex carbohydrates. I only drink water, and I try to stay away from sugar.
I learned about Bodybuilding.com through Jamie Eason. She is truly one of my heroes. I met her at the Arnold expo at your booth where I had the opportunity to get my picture taken with her. She truly is an inspiration to me. I use Bodybuilding.com on a daily basis. I order my supplements from the Bodybuilding.com store and I learn so much from the articles and videos for women.

It has been a little more than a year now. I am 40 pounds lighter, have more muscle mass than I have had my whole life. I even weigh less than I did in high school. My life has changed so much and I love the way I feel. I have so much energy and feel great. I aspire every day to look like the models that I see on Bodybuilding.com and in all the fitness magazines.
Who knows how far I can go with this lifestyle or what I will be one day maybe. I try to set an example for my kids, family and friends that no matter what happens in your life it happens for a reason, and you are always in control. If you work hard and stay dedicated to achieve a goal you can no matter what. Just work hard and don't give up.

 Suggestions For Others

Don't let other people's thoughts influence what you do with your life. If you want to do something and are passionate about it, then do it. Stop making excuses for yourself and start working toward the goals that you want to achieve in life. If you take it step by step any goal that you set will not seem impossible to achieve. Always stay positive and work hard and you can achieve anything.
