[ Q ] This will be your Arnold debut. How did you find out about being accepted to compete in the Arnold?
dot

I got a text message from J.M. to call him... he had good news. Well, he sure did!

dot
[ Q ] Had you been dieting before-hand in hopes of getting an invite?
dot

Yes... I started dieting 13 weeks out. I really had high hopes of being invited and I just wanted to be prepared. I did have some cheats on Christmas and New Years though!

[ Q ] How's your off-season training been going?
dot

Fantastic! It has been 6 months since I've been on stage. I took a long off-season on purpose so I could focus on making improvements. I worked my tail off and I'm happy with the improvements I've made.

dot
[ Q ] What changes have you made to your physique since we last saw you on stage?
dot

I've added some size to my quads and shoulders. My lats are fuller and my waist is smaller so I have a much better V-taper. I even put a little size on my little bitty calves!

[ Q ] Has your prep been any different for this show that previous contests?
dot

Well, since I had a full 3 month "off-season" my body was able to rest so when I started dieting for the Arnold, my body responded quickly. I also incorporated track work and lots of plyo training into my routine.

dot
[ Q ] What's your goal for the Arnold in terms of placing?
dot

Hmmmmmm... I would like to be in the top 10. The top 6 would make me ecstatic!

dot
[ Q ] What's your biggest challenge when dieting for a show?
dot

Boredom. I'm so tired of fish!

[ Q ] Will you be competing again after the Arnold?
dot

Yes, sir... probably the Pittsburgh. I'm not sure what else... but hopefully the Olympia in Sept.

dot
[ Q ] Do you run as part of your prep or what types of cardio do you do?
dot

I do all types of cardio. I run stair and sprints. I also ran on the treadmill a bit this time. I use the step mill and the elliptical as well. Cardio is boring so I have to change it up!

[ Q ] Do you think you could still whoop some booty in the 100 and 200 meter runs?
dot

Haha-sure! But I'd be scared of tearing a quad so don't challenge me to a race, Isaac!

dot
[ Q ] You used to be a cheerleader, who's your biggest cheerleader now?
dot

That'd be the hubby, Tom. He is really in this with me. He is so supportive.

dot
[ Q ] As you mentioned your husband Tom seems to be very supportive of your career. How important is it to have a significant other who is supportive while prepping for a show?
dot

It is of the utmost importance. Any competitor will tell you that the prep for a show is physically and emotionally draining. You become very consumed by it all and lots of times, you don't give the time or energy you should to your significant other or family members.

To have someone who understands and supports is the only way one can be successful - and not go insane! I'm extremely lucky to have Tom and I thank God for him everyday!

dot
[ Q ] You used to work in the insurance field, any insurance tips for readers?
dot

Make sure you have it! Seriously, you wouldn't believe how many people are driving around without insurance!

dot
[ Q ] You're working as a personal trainer, right? Do you feel competing yourself helps you train others?
dot

Yes, I do train a few clients. What I've been doing more - which I LOVE - is helping figure competitors with their contest prep. It's so much fun for me and my experiences are helping me with this.

dot
[ Q ] What types of people do you train?
dot

They range in age from 26 to 45 yrs old. All female. Believe it or not, my 45 yr old trains the hardest and looks the best! She is an animal. The girls I prep for shows are in their 20s. It's perfect because they are just starting and have so much potential and time.

dot
[ Q ] You turned pro relatively quickly. Do you feel you get better every year and your physique has yet to reach its full potential for the figure stage?
dot

Yes, I feel my physique is improving each year, but I know there is always room for improvement so I will always train hard and strive to be better.

dot
[ Q ] Do you enjoy living in sunny Florida over your Midwest days?
dot

Yes and no. I love the weather in Florida (especially in the winter!). I'm blessed with a wonderful life and great friends here. I do miss a lot of things about the Midwest though. My family, the seasons, and the true kindness of the people.

[ Q ] Does the weather in Florida assist or detract from your prep?
dot

Usually it assists me in my prep - except when its 95 degrees with 100% humidity! Sunny days give me energy and it's nice to be able to train outside whenever you want.

dot
[ Q ] Do you work out alone or have a workout partner?
dot

It's a mix. I train alone twice a week, with Tom once a week, with IFBB Pro Bodybuilder Bill Wilmore three times a week, and IFBB Pro Figure competitor Paola Almerico once a week!

[ Q ] Do you pay attention to what others say online with their predictions or criticisms?
dot

I don't search for the predictions (except yours, of course) but if someone sends me a link, I'll look them up.

dot
[ Q ] You seemed to have formed a bond with fellow figure pro, Elaine Goodlad. What's the best advice Elaine has given you?
dot

Yes, Elaine is a great person. We have lots in common. Elaine has always told me to put 100% of myself into this so that when I get on stage, I can feel confident that I've done MY best.

dot
[ Q ] You'll be at the BodyWell Nutrition booth (your sponsor) at the Arnold Expo, right?
dot

Yes, I will be there all day Saturday and later in the day on Sunday. Please stop by everyone!

[ Q ] Anyone you want to give a shout out to?
dot

My family and friends for sure - especially Tom and my parents. They are the ones closest to me when I'm dieting and they are the ones that have to handle the mood swings! Hany Rambod for his coaching and Bill Wilmore for his dedication to helping my legs grow! Terry Goodlad for his talented photography work. Finally, the BodyWell Nutrition team for all the support!

dot
[ Q ] Where can people find more information on you?
dot

dot
[ Q ] Good luck Kristal! We'll see you in Columbus. You're one of my dark horse picks for this show. The package you're bringing to the Arnold stage is a new one that will shock a number of people. I'm confident your goal at top six is in the cards for you.
