2007 Olympia Review: Appetite For Destruction!

There is a time and place where we can be judgmental, where we can banter and openly discus how a person’s physical appearance makes us feel... These are the split personalities of Jay Cutler & Ronnie Coleman. Read on.

I love experiencing different cultures whether they are in this country or any other. Physically, the appearance can be vast but mentally the personalities are even more so. Without stamping tags on different races and cultures, some can be naturally glum and depressed, others joyful and appreciative whilst some are downright arrogant and rude, but who are we to judge?

Well, there is a time and place where we can be judgmental, where we can banter and openly discus how a persons physical appearance makes us feel, whether it be good or bad. What better place and time to talk about physical personalities than the 2007 Mr. Olympia where everyone chews on the fat, and views their opinions on the mad mass monster, the symmetrical sweetheart or the braggadocios balanced bruiser.

The Split Personalities Of Cutler & Coleman

Happiness represents activity on the right side of the brain. Depression and sadness is a couple of characters that hang out on the left side of town. Fear is a universal emotion that includes everything, from the decision to fight, or the decision to flee. It is so important that it can be what determines the survival of man.

In the lead up to the 2007 Mr. Olympia, fear was as present as OJ Simpsons guilt in both Jay Cutler and Ronnie Coleman, but as "Cuts" decided to fight, the "Big Nasty" chose to flee.

-> Ronnie Coleman:

    As in any evolutionary analysis, one must consider the cost and benefit of behavior in such circumstances. The traumatic experience of four straight losses to Cutler last year may have lead to the stress, anger, sadness, frustration and possible procrastination of Coleman's decision of not preparing for the 2007 Olympia in the sordid depths of Metroflex gym.

    Owner - Brian Dobson attempts to call in his student had fallen on deaf ears, and in turn, the screams "yeah buddy" and "light weight" were absent throughout the hardcore haven that had originally produced the worlds biggest bodybuilder. Ronnie had no objective eyes on him except ones that were as much help as those possessed on a bat blind folded in a brown paper bag.

    The big and nasty proportions of the former Mr. Olympia had reduced its commanding mantra that had dominated this stage over the eight past occasions. The tired muscles looked fatigued when comparing to his enthusiastic prime. He seemed to have more water than a haddocks bathing suite which drowned out the vibrant and smiling features we all crave in order for him to redeem his prime.

    Was it the paranoia of the noticeable injuries or decline in strength that kept Coleman secluded to his home gym? Was it the sadness of seeing his once full bellied muscles failing to react as it had in its younger years? Only Coleman can provide us with the true answer, but it is my job to speculate, and I speculate that the symptoms associated with this sadness, such as fatigue, less ability to concentrate and loss of interest in daily activities had a little something to say about this year's outcome.

-> Jay Cutler:

    Cutler came to the party well prepared for celebration complete with a package as water tight as a mermaids brassier. From head to toe he hoped to be as sliced as someone who had walked across a very sharp cattle grid wearing a very heavy hat, and as you chuckle to yourself finding these analogies quite funny, I can tell you Coleman thought it was as entertaining as receiving an arrow through the heart only to find a gas bill attached to it.

    If we attempt to analyze Jay's mental stability over the past year, it would seem that the joy and pleasure of defeating Coleman in '06 had a welcoming side effect. The neurotransmitters and endorphins play an important role in ones perception and the dopamine which would have been released by Cutler following his victories would've been enough to OD a marquee full of ravers.

    The motivation to relive that experience fed Jay the encouragement to upset Coleman's comeback, thus leaving the Texans plans as well structured as a Viking helmet with the horns placed in the inside.

Motivation

Motivation is the director of emotions and it determines how much energy and attention the body assigns to any given stimulus - essential for Cutlers survival. It created and guided his goal directed behavior that had him train twice per day and to conduct his cardio at 2am, and lift in the manner that Coleman once inflicted for his certain championship survival.

Ronnie may still have biceps the size of Birmingham but the rest of his physique is starting to crumble which is understandable when you consider his age and having to face the younger Cutler.

Staring into the abyss when he was eating his breakfast, grinding his teeth on the final reps of torment, and waking up at 2am for his second bout of cardio were all the bricks that Cutler strategically placed into his foundation that he hoped would be so stable, not even someone the size and dominance of Coleman could crumble. Cutler had found his place of residence and he was far from letting Coleman take his place.

The physical force of Jay, was inviting as an anthrax party to the Coleman camp. The look of this dismay was evident on Ronnie's face, and he couldn't appear more concerned that fateful night than if he came home from a hard day at the gym only to find a wild Rhinoceros wearing his pajamas, smoking his cigarettes and in bed with his would be wife.

Coleman's Retirement

On Coleman's announcement of fourth place, his expression was surprisingly of gratitude and relief. The end of days had been tapping him on his shoulders letting him know that his time was up and Ronnie was prepared to except his fate with proud maturity.

The completion of Coleman's career was received with a thunderous applause and standing ovation from the sold out Orleans arena. A new guard is on the horizon and it all won't be as dominant for Jay Cutler as he would wish. Victor Martinez proved this by pushing him to the brink of defeat.
