Background Josh Bryant is 28 years old and lives in Arlington, Texas. Josh works as a Strength &Conditioning Coach and personal trainer. He trains at the World Famous Metroflex gym in Arlington, which is owned by Brian Dobson. He received his Bachelor's of Arts Degree in December 2003 from Cal State University - Northridge. The International Sports Science Association (ISSA) certifies Josh as a Certified Fitness Trainer (CFT), Specialist in Performance Nutrition (SPN) and Specialist in Sports Conditioning (SSC). On March 9, 2009 Josh was awarded the International Sports Science Association's (ISSA) highest honor, the Master of Fitness Sciences (MFS.) Josh is also certified by the NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association) as a CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist) and NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine) as a PES (Performance Enhancement Specialist) and the National Association of Speed and Explosion (NASE) as a Specialist in Speed and Explosion (SSE.) Josh first competed in powerlifting in 1996 at the AAU North American Bench Press Championships at 15 years old. At that meet, he benched 308.5 pounds, weighing 196 pounds. From 1996 through 1999, he concentrated primarily on football and track. He would enter an occasional push/pull meet. In the APF-West Coast Meet, at 17 years old and at 230 pounds, he managed a 413-pound bench press and a 529-pound deadlift. Josh achieved success in football and track and was named All-League and All-County in both sports at his alma mater, Santa Barbara High School, Josh earned the Clarence Schutte Award for Toughness in 1999 and the Hard-Nosed Award in 1998. As a teenager at 275 pounds, Josh won the USAPL Teenage Nationals with a 1,824-pound total in only his third full meet. He was also ranked #1 by Powerlifting USA for Teenagers in 2001 in the squat with 727 pounds, bench at 512 pounds and a total of 1,835 pounds. He benched 523 pounds before his 20th birthday! On November 15, 2003 he became the youngest person to bench press 600 pounds RAW in powerlifting history at the USPF Texas Cup in Austin, Texas. Josh has increased his best lifts to 909 pounds in the squat, 633 pounds in the bench and 800 pounds in the deadlift. The squat and bench press were done in 2005 at the USPF Mountaineer Cup Professional Powerlifting Championships in Chester, West Virginia. The 800 deadlift was raw was done in Washington at Tommy Fannon's APF Outlaw meet in February 2005. Josh officially bench pressed 620 pounds RAW at Bruce Derosier's New England Record Breakers professional bench press contest. Josh has been extremely successful in Strongman contests. On May 15, 2004 Josh competed in his first strongman contest. The contest, the California Pro-AM, was NASS sanctioned at the Platinum Plus level. He competed against the top competitors in the country. In his first contest, he took first in the Yoke and the log clean and press, along with a very close second place in the farmers walk. In November 2005, Josh won the Atlantis Strongest Man in America. His highlights included a 445-pound standing press, and a pull up with 130 pounds over his bodyweight of 306 pounds. Outside of Powerlifting, Josh enjoys spending time with his family and friends. His dad, Dan, is an educator of over 35 years and was an NAIA All-American thrower in college. His mom, Susie, is a pre-school director-owner and is the nicest person Josh knows. His brother, Noah, was a high school All-American in the shot put with a toss of 67'5" and was California State Champ in 2002. Noah is a graduate of USC, where he won two NCAA National Championships in the shot put and set the school record. Just recently, Josh became engaged to the love of his life Jennifer Hays. Josh also enjoys taking road trips with his friends. Josh is a Christian and attends Creekwood Church in Mansfield, Texas.
