My Philosophy Concerning Off Season Training!

By: Jesse C. Lay

One of the key issues is to see where you are and where you are going with your goals. Then focus on the hard core, becoming the next Mr. Olympia. Remember it starts with a dream.

Things to prepare yourself for that goal is to, weigh yourself, take measurements, and take before and after pictures at every angle to see progress of your transformation.

Training:
Stick with basic movements, like bench press, incline press, dB press, incline press, bench press, over head extensions, dB extensions, straight bar curl, dB curls, EZ bar preacher curl, military press, T bar rows, dead lifts, squats, hack squats, leg press, lunges, calve raise, seated calve raises.... These are only a few basics movements, and you can't forget your cardio and abs.

Even though you are training to pick up weight, size, and strength, you have to stay focused on the overall picture. That is to stay fairly lean, no more than 10-15 lbs from your ideal weight. It is unhealthy to pick up 40-80 lbs of unwanted fat when you can just maintain all year round. It is easier to add lean muscle than it is to pick up unwanted fat. This will make you feel like a looser. Then you'll have to worry about taking the unwanted fat off for the spring. Think about it.

PS. To beginners, do not get caught up in what your friends are doing. Just focus on your own training, and results will come. Remember, quality not quantity. Never give up on yourself and stay away from drugs!
