Thank you. This whole competition has been a whirlwind! When I found out that I had been chosen as a round 3 winner, I was in shock.

Then after finding out that I was going to be flown to L.A to compete with five other finalists, I said, "Someone pinch me!" I am honored and excited to see what the year will bring.

[ Q ] Let's start off the interview with some background information on yourself and then branch into questions about the contest. Can you give us some background information on yourself and a quick bio?
dot

I grew up in Tri Cities, Washington. I am the second oldest of the siblings, three of which are my step-siblings, two full blood, and two half-siblings. We were like the Brady Bunch growing up, and I loved it!

I graduated from Washington State University with a degree in Human Development. I taught preschool for two years after graduation and then realized that I really wanted to focus on personal training. Currently I live in Virginia Beach and am a personal trainer full time.

I have been competing since November of 2005. Every year since then I have competed in the Women's Tri Fitness World Challenge and for the past two years have held the Grace and Physique Winner title.

In 2006 I competed in two NPC shows in Washington State, placing 2nd and 1st in the short class. In 2007 I placed 4th at the Flex Bikini Contest at the Olympia Expo and in 2008 I won my FAME Bikini Pro title at the Boise Fit Expo.

My claim to fame would be gracing the cover of the January 2008 issue of Oxygen Magazine. I am also a sponsored athlete with Optimum Nutrition and American Bodybuilding.

[ Q ] What drew you to the Bodybuilding.com website?
dot

When I first began dieting and training, I would research different diets and exercise plans. It was always a Bodybuilding.com article that would pop up first on the search engine.

From there I started thumbing through Bodybuilding.com and was amazed at the depth of the site. It was great being able to read articles written by different competitors, what their diets were like, and how they trained.

It really helped me to get some great ideas during the days when competition was not a part of my everyday vocabulary.

[ Q ] How long have you been a member in the Bodybuilding.com community?
dot

Funny that you ask that! I just had to log on and check how long it's been. I started on BodySpace in January 2006, so four years now! I created a profile just two months after my first competition.

I had the help of Callie Marunde for my first show, but after that I wanted to do it on my own. It was great to become a part of BodySpace and chat with other competitors and have the support of people who have the same aspirations.

[ Q ] What is your favorite feature on Bodybuilding.com?
dot

BodySpace. It is great to be surrounded by other fitness-oriented people who continue to motivate, support and push each other to reach their goals.

It is amazing to see all the transformations, living proof that anyone can do it! We all need encouraging and this is a great place to be encouraged.

[ Q ] What made you enter the BodySpace Spokesmodel contest?
dot

Well I entered for fun, never in a million years thinking that I would actually be chosen to compete! Once I found out that I made the selection in round three I started to get really excited.

I thought that it would be great exposure. I love fitness modeling and I love motivating others and I knew this would be a great opportunity to do both on a higher level!

[ Q ] Did you ever have any doubts that you wouldn't win?
dot

Oh yes! All the girls were in amazing shape, and incredibly motivating.

[ Q ] What was the best part about winning?
dot

It wasn't until I got back from L.A and had a chance to sit down and think "Wow, I am the 2010 BodySpace Spokesmodel." It is a huge honor to be a part of the biggest health and fitness online community.

The best part has yet to come! I get to start the year off with Bodybuilding.com at the Arnold Classic Expo, then the Ironman Magazine Cover (which I still can not believe) and just being a part of Bodybuilding.com.

This is a huge accomplishment for me and I am so grateful for all the people in my life that have supported me in doing what I love to do!

[ Q ] Who was the first person you called when you won?
dot

Actually, it was so crazy backstage that I had to text before I did any calling. I sent my boyfriend a picture text of me holding my trophy and said, "Guess Whaaaat?!"

Then I texted my Dad, since my best friend flew over from Texas to come and watch me LIVE!

dot
[ Q ] What does winning this contest mean to you and what do you hope it does for you and your career?
dot

It has always been a dream of mine to be a fitness icon. I want people to see me and say, "She is the definition of health and fitness." I am ready to motivate on a higher level, not only my clients but others too.

Holding this title means that I am a part of the Bodybuilding.com Team. I am here to help inspire others, share knowledge, and promote a healthy lifestyle, and that I will do!

[ Q ] During this contest, what did your diet and training consist of?
dot

I started Crossfit in April 2009 and have done nothing else since! I am addicted, I love it! This show and my last (Women's Tri Fitness) were both prepared for with only the Crossfit workout of the day. So I do a lot of Olympic lifting, which I absolutely love because it makes me feel so strong!

95% of the time, I go to the gym nervous like I am about to run in a race, I am always in competition with myself! I go in hoping to be faster and stronger than the previous workouts.

For this competition diet I followed the Paleo plan; nothing processed or artificial. Basically if it's something you can (or could at one point) pick or kill then you can eat it! It is also known as the caveman diet; meats, nuts, seeds, fruits and veggies.

For my last competition I used the Zone Diet, with basically the same foods as Paleo, but I always had my oatmeal in the morning to make my protein pancakes.

Currently, I am back on the Zone. Without my oatmeal in the morning while I was on Paleo, I felt the lack of energy during my workouts and I am ready to have that back!

[ Q ] Any shout outs or anything you would like to add to this interview?
dot

I would like to thank my sponsors Optimum Nutrition and American Bodybuilding; Optimum Fish Oil and HMB were a part of my everyday regime all the way through dieting. I would also like to thank Iron Angels Clothing for sponsoring my suit for this contest, which was made by Suitsyouswimwear.com.

I have to give a special thanks to Drew, my wonderful boyfriend, for eating my Paleo dinners and always motivating me to go to the gym and pushing me to get through my workouts!
