What keeps you in Ohio and not making the move to Vegas or Cali?
All of my family lives in Cleveland and they help out so much with my daughter and support for my career. Not to mention I would miss everyone!
How's the personal training work going?
My personal training business is going great. I am actually not promoting it as much as I could be because of the upcoming contests I am in. After the GNC show of Strength I will be able to concentrate on it a little bit more.
How old is your daughter Lenna?
Lenna is almost two years old! She is getting SSSOOOO BBBIIIIGGGG!!!! I push down on her head daily to keep her from growing but so far it hasn't had any effect.
She's a supah star already, just like mom - has her own web page and email address. Does she already have as many fans as mom?
Lenna is so cute that yes she has a lot of fans too. I have threatened to ground her if she gets cuter, but she just laughs. I think her daddy and I are in trouble in a few years.
Favorite hobby when not being mommie, trainer, and animal care-taker?
You mean there is more time?
What's in your CD player right now?
A mix of all different high energy music burned off the web from one of my clients. They are even supportive!
What motivates you in the gym?
I have always been pretty good about lifting. I just like to do it! But if I really need a boost I'll pick up some new music or look through some magazines.
Favorite Cheat food?
Anything chocolate most of the time! But I run into cravings for pasta and bread a lot too.
Biggest Pet Peeve:
People that seriously over exaggerate in conversation. And also regular use of very trite sayings like "six in one hand half a dozen in the other".
One thing people may not know about you:
I've kept my secrets this long... why should I let them out now?
What makes someone attractive:
Confidence, honesty and a sense of humor.
Worst pickup line some one has used on you (noticed the top ten list on your site - anyone used any of those)?
Do you work out? Ugh, I really hate that. It is basically an insult and guys think it is their way in.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I hope in five years to be running a very successful personal training business out of my own studio, possibly still competing (hey I will only be 28!) With at least one more little angle around the house.
Career Highlight to date?
I was trilled to compete in the Arnold Classic. I had such a great time and was very happy with my placing. The other two would be obtaining my pro card and qualifying to the first ever Figure Olympia!
What¹s the weirdest thing a fan has asked you:
I was working at a bar during the Arnold weekend in Columbus, (While I was still an amateur) and a guy wanted to sit on my back and see if I could do good mornings. Kinda sick if ya ask me!
Do you still work with Mike Davies?
Yes! I started my fitness career in Columbus with Mike Davies, not knowing anything about the industry. He is such a talented devoted person that people that he works with can not help but be dedicated under his training. I owe a lot of my success to him and plan to work with him as long as we are both in the fitness industry.
Next trip is to the Olympia in October - what can people expect from Mari?
I think people will notice a difference in my physique. I started my diet early and have been training intensely to present the best body I can. A lot of people forget or just don't know that figure is very individual. Each competitor is striving for the best balance for their own physique. Not some predefined standard. Like anyone there are things that I would like to change about my physique, but I have to work within my genetics and structure. I will however be in the best condition to date.
Anything else you'd like to share with the peeps here on Bodybuilding.com?
Being a mom as well as a professional competitor I would like everyone, especially the women to know that there are no excuses, only obstacles to being the best at what ever it is you choose. Do not think that kids are the end of your great physique. If anything, parents need their health and active bodies more than anyone to keep up with our perfect little devils.
Mari will be competing in this year's First Figure Olympia in Las Vegas. She's also received and invite to compete at the GNC Show of Strength. Best wishes to you Mari in your up-coming competitions. You're a true inspiration to lots of people out there. Keep up the great work!
